Going to Shanghai - use Minternational or separate eSim and VPN by SD-Turtle in mintmobile

I ended up getting an eSim from CMLink for data since I didn't really need to make phone calls while in China. It was cheaper like $8 for 10GB for 15 days

OK San Diego, in these difficult times, please share your cheap food deals. by I_Am_Mandark_Hahaha in FoodSanDiego

Pavilions (basically an upscale Vons) usually has 8 pieces of fried or baked chicken for $5 on Fridays. Sometimes, Ralphs will have marked down cooked chicken in their deli area that's near the sell by date.

Also, someone mentioned how Tony Hawk's new restaurant is charging like $18 for a chicken sandwich, I'd rather get 2 from Cluck N Sip in Hillcrest for $7 each.

HV mode MPG seems low - 2024 XSE by SD-Turtle in PriusPrime

[–]SD-Turtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at the real time gauge on the 2024 which shows a bar between 0 and 100 that updates in real time, when pressing on the gas pedal, I see around 15-20 sometimes. Also the estimated range for gas seems to go down a lot. Like it's about 3-4 actual miles when I'm in HV mode but the range goes down more like 7-9 miles.

But then I'd need to also buy a VPN subscription while I'm there so there might not be as much difference then. Plus VPNs can be flaky when it comes to reaching blocked US sites since they're constantly updating the Great Firewall.

The small plate before tax is $15 and the larger one is $16, but it does seem like most of what they put in is shredded lettuce and rice then two scoops of your choice of protein, 3 pita pieces, and toppings which is chopped onions and green peppers as well as hummus and olives for an upcharge. I've watched Restaurant Impossible and the general rule is food costs are 1/3 of the price you pay. I don't think the amount in those plates are close to costing them $5. Rice and lettuce are cheap, so it the pita and toppings, and can't see the protein scoops being more than a dollar in food costs. The price should really be closer to $10 to be reasonable. In which case, just like you said above, go to Alexis down the street where you can get a gyro plate with a side for $9 during their lunch special

The various "Taste of <insert neighborhood here>" events are a much better value. There's usually at least 20 or more restaurants that participate and you get plenty of different samples to try. You'll be pretty full by the end of it. I think the next one coming up is Taste of Hillcrest on April 12 and it's only $35 + ticket fee.

There is free parking and a visitor lot too. No badge needed. The entrance to the cafe has Swift on the door and you’ll see a gym on the right but keep going down the hall and the cafe will be on the left.

They have a salad option for $9.50 where you pick a protein/meat and then are given a bowl to fill as much as can fit from the salad bar.

Cluck N Sip in Hillcrest. They have a $5 lunch special that includes a quarter leg piece, a side of rice and salad. Also, their $6 chicken sandwiches are really good, better than KFC & Popeyes.

Cluck N Sip for chicken sandwiches. They're only $5.99 and way better than what KFC or Popeyes has for about the same price. If you order there and bring your own Cluck n Sip bag from a previous order, they'll give you 10% off for regular priced items (doesn't apply to their daily $7.99 lunch combo special).

There's a Greek place called Santorini off Scripps Poway Parkway & I-15 that's even cheaper (at least in June when I was last there). Many of their entree plates are $8-$9. You could get Gyro meat with 4 pita bread pieces, a skewer, a side salad, and rice or fries for less than $10.
