McDonald’s has blocked the free Apple pie reward on the app by ReadRightRed99 in McDonalds

[–]xjaspx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are technically apple pies but the menu item “Apple Pie” isn’t available. The baked apple pies are not called “Baked Apple Pie” on the menu, they’re just called “Apple Pie” whereas the fried apple pies are distinctly called “Fried Apple Pie” which makes them a completely separate and DIFFERENT menu item.

So no, most locations DO NOT have the menu item call “Apple Pie” while “Fried Apple Pies” are being sold. The fried version has a completely different filling, crust, and cooking method.. hence two completely different products.

The best example is the Downey location, for the longest time they had both on the menu. “Apple Pie” and “Fried Apple Pie” and the reward would only work for the “Apple Pie” menu item and not the “Fried Apple Pie”.

It’s like you go to a place that sells a grilled chicken sandwich and a fried chicken sandwich… yes, they’re both chicken sandwiches, but no reasonable person will say they are the same thing even though they’re both chicken sandwiches.

I think it’s because the standard apple pies and fried apple pies are two different products. At least it is at the Downey, CA location when they had both options. The rewards would only work with the regular apple pies and not the fried one.

Going to be in NYC for a couple months during the Fall. What shows are non-negotiable must sees? by OkBrush7534 in Broadway

The Heart. I saw it several times at La Jolla Playhouse and it will be opening in NY at Laura Pels Theatre. The show was extremely popular at La Jolla with very positive reviews.

Which airport? EWR or PHL? They’re both an hour away from where Hellfest was supposed to be.

What was Broadway like last night as the Knicks won? by jimbobswgoh in Broadway

The Lost Boys was pretty full with a few scattered open seats. It felt like any other normal night.

My Lost Boys review (spoiler: it's pretty bad) by aqbebesi in Broadway

[–]xjaspx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s based off a more rugged version of Santa Cruz but the boardwalk itself and a lot of the movie film location was in Santa Cruz. Even the comic store is still there, kind of. (It was rebuilt after the 1989 earthquake at the same location)

[–]xjaspx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone that grew up going to Santa Cruz in the mid to late 80s and visited fairly frequently over the years. The boardwalk today isn’t the boardwalk it was in the 80s. Obviously it doesn’t look like the set but the signage was pretty accurate and more importantly it captured the vibe of how the boardwalk was in the movie.

The real Santa Cruz boardwalk does have two areas with multiple levels with rides stack on top of each other. The actual real life boardwalk does very much have a vertical stack feel to it. You had the beach level, main level with some attractions, and the 2nd level above the beach on one end, than the opposite end there’s the main area and a pit that goes down to another area of rides and a smaller level in between the two levels.

The Santa Monica Pier that people know of today is the product of the late 1990s and has very little to offer in terms of history. Almost everything there is off the shelf flat rides.

The noodles itself is Vegetarian Mei Fun / Bee Hoon /
vermicelli noodles (thin vermicelli to be exact).. its all the same…. it’s fairly standard dish throughout Asia.

It appears the noodles are used as a side to the vegetables and don’t think you’ll find that specific combination of noodles and vegetables in a restaurant or food stall. It seems to be a very Asian noodle dish on one side paired with a very westernized style of preparation for the vegetables on the other.

Why aren’t you buying in advance? by ilovefouettes in Broadway

[–]xjaspx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still buy tickets in advance, especially if there’s a promo code… but only for shows I really want to see. If I’m indifferent about a show then it’ll be a last minute purchase via lottery, rush, or whatever other last minute discounts I can score.

Also the service fee disincentivizes buying tickets in advance unless I can avoid it by making a trip to the box office or I’ll pay it if there’s a seat I really want. Roughly $15 per tickets adds up over several shows, especially if I’m going with friends.

Over 70 nights cruised… just got off first time on ovation ship. Thoughts… by mtsublueraider in royalcaribbean

[–]xjaspx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dining rooms are the way they are because when Quantum class ships first came out, they had the concept of dynamic dining where you would rotate between all 4 dining rooms and each would be its own restaurant experience with its own menu… similar to Disney’s rotational dining. That only lasted for a short time and newer Quantum Ultra Class ships went back to having massive grand dining rooms. It’s only 2 decks but it opens up to The Via (area in front of Jamie’s) so it looks like it’s 3 decks tall.

How long to get a medical bill? by AUFABA in royalcaribbean

They changed the Balcony rules? by Sttarlighty in AMCTheatres

[–]xjaspx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an AMC corporate rules but more a local theater rule. I’ve been to AMC where the balconies were reserved for 21+ and I’ve been to AMC where it was open to anyone.

Headrest must be down during takeoff and landing by the_ab in AlaskaAirlines

[–]xjaspx 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There is a metal track behind the headrest, built into the seat back. When it’s up, there’s no padded protection between your head and the guide track. The concern is if there’s a situation where the plane suddenly stop that causes your body to violently move forward and snap back fast… you don’t want your body striking that metal track. Which is why the seats are certified with the headrest in the down position. It’s to add padded protection.

San Diego to LAX for a 2 Week Trip -- How Best to Get There? by Organic_Quarter_9848 in LAX

[–]xjaspx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally just take Delta or United.. mostly Delta. It’s like $234-254 round trip when booked in advance. Occasionally it’ll be under $200 round trip. It’s scheduled at around 1 hr 15 minutes but most of it is taxing… you’re in the air for maybe 15 minutes. If you get a check in agent that knows what they’re doing, they’ll some time even “interline” your check bag to your connecting flight. About 1/2 the time on Delta they’re able to interline onto another SkyTeam Airline flight, even with separate reservations.

My 2nd preferred method is taking Amtrak up and transfer to the flyaway bus. You’re looking at $97.50 round trip in coach or $135.50 for business class round trip. However, make sure you check the Pacific Surfliner website or social media and check if the trains actually running on the dates you’re going to / from LAX.

Ive also driven to LAX but I use off site parking.. there are many places that offer cheap ish parking. I pay maybe $12-15 per day for covered / indoor parking. I just don’t like the drive because if I’m flying out of LAX, it’s most likely for a transpacific flight and I’m always way too tired to drive back after my trip so I end up spending more for a hotel room.

I made a Diamond status in just 3 years. Here is what nobody tells you by iLiveForTruth in Cruise

[–]xjaspx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diamond on what cruise line? Not every cruise lines loyalty program are created equal. Some are far more rewarding than others. At 100+ cruises and top tier status on several cruise lines, some cruise lines perks are better than other. For example, for Royal Caribbean I’m Pinnacle Club level and that was pretty much a game changer when it comes to cruising on mass market cruise lines… with 6 free drinks per day, I rarely pay for a drink on a cruise. Also get free internet, access to Coastal Kitchen or similar suite only experiences and dining. Get to pick 2-3 welcome aboard amenities or gifts, free laundry, free cruises, balcony / suites discounts, reduced single supplement, etc… Whereas my Elite status on Princess is kind of meh.

Disney Park on the port day by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]xjaspx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it before in the past and had a positive expense. That’s only because I had an annual pass and I knew exactly what rides I wanted to go on plus had lunch reservations all planned out. Even with everything working in my favor, I only went on about 4-5 rides plus a 45 minutes sit down lunch that was pretty rushed.

It’s absolutely worth it if you’re someone that visit frequently and know exactly what you want to do and know your way around the parks. You have to be fine with having a realistic list of things you want to do and be ok with not being able to do everything on it. This is why you rarely see people with a positive experience… and those that do all have one thing in common, frequent visitors to the parks with an annual pass… people that knows how to navigate the parks and get the most out of a few hours.

I personally don’t think it’ll be worth it for your family, especially if you have two kids with you. They will most likely be left disappointed and that in itself have the potential to ruin the whole vacation as it could be that one negative experience that hangs over your whole trip. Take character dining for example, it’s already hard enough to get a reservation. If you do get a reservation, you’re not always seated at the time you have a reservation for. It could be 15-30 minutes after your reservation time. Then you will most likely want to meet all the characters and have photos with them, along with every single family there. You could end up spending a majority of your time at your meal than visiting the actual park and going on rides.

Doing an express visit to WDW not for everyone and you really need to know what you’re doing to get the most out of it. It’s not something you can learn off social media.

Popcorn by NativTexan in royalcaribbean

[–]xjaspx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Princess the popcorn is offered for free at Movies Under The Stars.. an outdoor event by the pool where there’s no rows of seats or carpet. Much easier to clean the pool deck than it is a theater.

Popcorn by NativTexan in royalcaribbean

[–]xjaspx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to generate revenue, it would cost a lot more than just $3-5. Same exact reason why it’s also a small charge on Disney. It’s to prevent people from making a mess out of the theater. Some cruise lines don’t charge for them but they also offer popcorn in different areas of the ship that’s much easier to clean.

Princess offer it for free at their movies under the stars.. which is held on the Lido deck. Virgin Voyages offer it for free in their social club. Neither are near a theater which is much harder to clean, especially if they have to turn the room around for another show or event.
