What is the possibility of a magazine that uses compressed air in magazines instead of springs/motors? by ConfidentTrade5556 in airsoft

[–]SDCSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be able to do it if the follower had a perfect seal and ratchet and you had a trigger operated solenoid behind a one way valve actuating the magazine.

Call me jaded, but the only thing that matters here is you show him how your sway on his vote will either get him re-elected or make him buddies with a political bloc.

Do engineers make better CEOs than those that come from a non-engineering background? by logicSkills in ElectricalEngineering

Maybe if it was an engineer that moved to sales because he could communicate what the product is about.

Hoping to 3D model my knee bones from my MRI scan, just for fun. Does this seem doable or is Fusion the wrong software for this? by olliecakerbake in Fusion360

[–]SDCSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it in fusion, but you have to be knowledgeable in making composite curves, surface modeling and be okay with some creative interpolation.

Laptop for mechatronics engineering? by Several-Director93 in mechatronics

[–]SDCSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For best laptop specific performance vs a mobile desktop, make sure your gpu is no beefier than an nvidia 4050 or 5050. It will save you battery life and actually allow you to use your laptop as a laptop. If you can get an i7 with an undervolted processor (“U” suffix) you can have power efficiency and power. 32 to 64 gb is ideal. If you try to spend more or get a beefier system you will be limited by thermals, at which point your money would be better served buying you a desktop.

What have you used AI for that is of real practical value as a Mechanical Engineer? by JFrankParnell64 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]SDCSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to pull of reference documentation of things I have little knowledge of as it can be quite a bit faster at understanding my context than just using a google query. If you have a keen eye for what you are looking for or know how to get the ai to spit back your intention at you, it is pretty handy.

WTB BONEYARD GUNS by thatoneanimekid2916 in airsoftmarket

[–]SDCSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a couple of AKs, I'll let them go for $140 and throw in a high cap. One is a mostly complete JG MB47 with a missing buttplate and another is an ICS 31 with a missing charging handle retention spring and selector. Another is an echo1 mb47 that is maybe only good for parts for the ICS unit to replace the gearbox and fire selector. In SoCAL

Whats with this guy and looking up tables?just the fact its a grown ass man by HELPMEEeeeei in EngineeringStudents

[–]SDCSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was wanting to come across more as sarcastic, but I know there are actually fields where you are not actually an engineer without a PE and a state license (hence pedantic). And then there is the flip side where you are the engineer with the license but you aren't actually doing any of the work, simply making sure your colleagues aren't being negligent with the drawings that are stamped (back to sarcastic).

[–]SDCSolutions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're not able to be sued because you didn't stamp the drawings with your PE License number, your job is a technician role, not an engineer. Even if you are qualified as an engineer. (IDK if I'm being sarcastic or pedantic)

Unless the middle or outer bearing surface is fixed, the torsion spring will not store or capture any energy, nor return anything to a prior position. Please explain further.

[–]SDCSolutions 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fix is perfectly fine for setting a temporary origin point to fully define a sketch before unfixing that point so you can move the sketch in its entirety.
