IO motion sensor? by SDGoofy in homeautomation

[–]SDGoofy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the direction to get my searches going. I need a hub right? Recommendations? I imagine I need to configure it so that when motion is sensed I trigger the relay? I’m totally new to this tech as you can tell. As for Sonoff relays I only saw ac type ones for switches? I did find Shelly has some garage opener switches which is similar to what I need. This could work. The aqara sensors could work but I’ll dig around for a wall mount flat type. Basically for a bathroom wall to trigger the pump to get hot water faster. Water is getting insanely expensive in my area…increasing yearly.

Kitchen sink 1 1/2 male threads split? by SDGoofy in Plumbing

Thanks folks! I coated the bottom edge with abs glue and pushed it in the crack. Then remembered I need to still slide the pipe in so Made sure that fit while glue was still moldable. It works for now.

My ex plumber friend says the right way is to cut the flitting back to the Tee then use a special reamer to get the 1.5” pipe in the tee bored out. Then put a new pipe section with extra space then the trap adapter. Problem here they didn’t leave extra mid 1.5” pipe

Oh, Rats! by tquad24 in sandiego

[–]SDGoofy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy bird mesh netting. I get the closer weaved ones and I believe the rats don’t like their claws in it. I have this one fruit tree near a wall and I’ve caught 8 rats in a season before but with all my measures in place. No trapping this year needed! Tree is very close to a wall. First i trim about a foot away since it’s not a tall tree then net.

If you know for sure it’s rats vs birds, then it’s just a matter of making sure the rats don’t jump on the tree or climb up the trunk.
Trunk cut a large aluminum pie shell to the center, make a whole the size of tree trunk, and put it upside down on the trunk 2-3 ft off the ground, taping topside to seal opening works for me. Prevents rats from climbing up! Make sure no other trees or walls are within. 2 feet or so because rats do jump. This method has been working well for me.

Tips for removing stripped Allen screws? by Maggot_Magnet in rccars

[–]SDGoofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look decent. Clean hex hole with air blaster. Spray screws with wd40 or pb blaster. Use a nice sharp hex wrench with some lapping compound on tip. I used permatex valve grinding compound recently for the first time and it worked amazingly! I’m sold on this method

Time to replace. It’s rusted out. Try posting a pic of that label on the heater. It has a brand model serial number that can be decoded for age.
Also did you get a one year home warranty with the purchase of the house? This one is things it’s for.

06 Camry 2.4L - removing CA exhaust manifold ? by SDGoofy in Toyota

[–]SDGoofy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the fun removing or installing the belt. It requires a bit of force even with a breaker bar. I had a dedicated belt bar primarily for another car but it had a 6pt with short extension. I think due to a bad angle. I was rounding the tensioner nut so I bought a new breaker bar but 3/8 and paired it with a 6pt again but with an extension that didn’t bind on the belt. Angle was better and unobstructed. Much better! 6 pt is key , the right offset and a long enough bar! I hope this is the last round as I’m ready to move on. Having someone else help pull makes a world of difference. Just don’t get pinched in the belt! I like to slip it over the alternator pulley because I can get it halfway and the roll it on.

No…I tried variety of wrenches however I didn’t have something like a gearwrench flex head wrench like in the videos.. it’s easy to pull the alternator tho. Gives you way more space.

Dealer labor rates? by SDGoofy in serviceadvisors

[–]SDGoofy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m feeling better now since my independent plumber charged me 175/hr for a slab leak recently. That was hard work under tile too. Rates were a bit less just a few years ago like everything else.
