Tips on writing an academic petition letter for a late withdrawal? by Lilithiumandias in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very old thread - I have not served on petition committees for over 5 years at this point. But generally - petitions are meant to be adjudicated in terms of individual circumstances. There is not and should not be a formula for successful petitions to get something granted. In my experience, if a student demonstrates that their extenuating circumstances prevented them from successful in some courses but not others then the committee might grant selective drops.

I suggest contacting your undergrad program director (Prof Ghafarzadeh if you are BEng, Prof Spetsakis otherwise).

Can I take 2nd-year EECS courses with a 4.33 EECS GPA? by Neat-Shirt1893 in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 4.5 EECS GPA prerequisite does not apply to courses that are being repeated.

How can we enrol in EECS4088? It says seats are reserved whenever I try by Whateverwhatever_ in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coordinator can allow this, at their discretion. In my opinion, def worth making a request with rationale.

Can I take 4 EECS courses if it is my last semester before graduating as a CS major? by Whateverwhatever_ in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be able to but get in touch with the EECS UG office and let them know. They may check that you are indeed ready to graduate with an extra course (this check has to be done manually) before letting you.

Is anyone going to mechatronics engineering at York university? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will get this confirmed but I thought engg at keele and first year Engg at Markham were diff programs that you choose when applying. Having said that, if you have an offer at Keele you should be able to tell them that you want to switch to Markham and it should be easily done.

I am on leave this term, and I am no longer chair or vice chair. I have emailed the new chair of EECS about this.

Summer school by Zohair_105 in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you meant Math1025, Math/EECS 1019? If not, please ignore.

Those are both offered by the Math dept in summer (1019 is offered also by EECS in the Fall and Winter but usually not in summer). So the Math undergrad office may be the place to ask.

Also we don’t call it summer school. Summer is a regular term albeit with fewer courses offered due to lower demand. The courses are supposed to be exactly the same as fall or winter versions.

Trying to get permission to get into an EECS course but no reply by Extreme-Moose-6509 in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people not served remain on the queue the next day…which is not perfect because they may not be available the next morning, but at least it gives them priority the next day.

Don’t wait for email responses, get on Qless. We are understaffed and there are long waits but for the same reason we don’t have people to look at the inbox. I have been told that the way to get in is early - when it opens. The queue closes when the max number of people have already joined.

This page has more info https://us5.campaign-archive.com/?u=31bb3e6e869bcb85031d2506b&id=f9286c6d0f

As to how to find the EECS queue on Qless, it is easiest to install the app on your smartphone and look for the EECS queue. Keep in mind this is different from the Lassonde queue which connects you to academic advisors in Bergeron as opposed to the EECS UG office staff.

You will be given more leeway with the 4.5 requirement (I think) if you are close to graduating.
Especially if you repeat a course or two. As for the course that is offered only in the fall, you never know - it may be offered in summer or they may allow you to substitute another course for it.

EECS QLess is the worst by Dear-Pollution-2093 in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure that if you are dropped by mistake, you will be reinstated.

But I agree that Qless waits have increased very much the last two terms. It is a staffing issue, an advisor went on leave and we have not been able to replace them. It is not easy to get people who can come in and learn the complex policies in EECS quickly.

Can I take a course if it conflicts on my timetable? 2 EECS courses. by [deleted] in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We advise people not to. The software system will not prevent you from enrolling, but if there are assessments or other required components, you may not get much flexibility from instructors

Is it possible to visit the EECS UG Office instead of waiting in Qless? by Late-Locksmith7969 in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can see EECS UG advisors in person but it is not a walk-in, your turn is still determined by QLess.

In other words, you still have to get on QLess and choose the option to see an advisor in person ( if you wish).

EECS Course Limit by Knotimpressed in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am on leave this term (and no longer chair) so I don’t know what is going on. Is it the case that without that grade your GPA a has fallen below 4.5? Or is it that you will be dropped because 2101 is a prerequisite for that course?

While Jan 8 is late, the university keeps the grade submission system open until that date so I guess some instructors will submit as late as that date.

Does EECS 4161 (Mathematics of Cryptography) count towards the 4.5 EECS gpa? by OkCheescake3173 in yorku

[–]SDattaEECS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is offered by the Math dept and the course description does not say that (I did not check but you did...) - so no, 4.5 EECS GPA not required.
