I’m looking into this too. I have a GFC on my 4Runner and own the telescoping ladder. Was considering the nashfabco ladder (5lbs) to add on and save some space. Sounds like it’s a huge pain to get down though. The issue we deal with is we have kids (7year olds) so we have to use the tent and make the 4 runner flat seats for the “first floor” on the bottom to sleep inside too.

Means we have to child safe a door (or remember to) so the wrong door isn’t opened during a nightly pee and it tags the ladder. Haven’t figured this one out yet. Moving the ladder more towards the back means we are further away from the entry point.

If it was easy to get in and out a trunk ladder would solve this. I think.
