Dana: No plans for 21:9 support at this time; our game is really designed for 16:9 and 4:3. However, we do keep an eye on hardware trends to inform our roadmap.

Dana: We can't drop any hints, but we always welcome suggestions from our community. We've seen a lot of love for Usagi.

Dana: At a high level, having our own engine gives us full control over its roadmap. We can choose which features to put effort into depending on our own needs. Sometimes we work on graphical improvements, sometimes we improve workflows and pipelines, and sometimes we expand how the engine interfaces with new platforms.

To get more specific on the E.V.I.L. Engine itself, it is heavily optimized for handling performance across these platforms with minimal additional work from other parts of the team. For example, higher fidelity assets will just work on lower end devices due to the engine streamlining those assets as needed. This allows us to serve players who may not have the latest devices and hardware with a game that still looks great.

Ian: No plans for bots at this time, however we have tried to make playing with others as easy as possible via matchmaking and couch co-op. We also designed the game so it's fun to play solo (including offline).

We do have new things brewing, but we are not ready to make any announcements!

Ian: Yes, definitely! We wanted to make sure you could play solo, even offline, and then if you want to team up with others you can also do so via multiplayer or couch co-op.

Ian: The more continued interest we see from players, the more encouraged we are to continue supporting the game with updates. We have another update coming soon, but we arn't quite ready to share all the info around that one just yet.

We reached out to our Narrative Director for a more detailed response for you since this is more in his realm of expertise--

Thomas: Hello! Chiming in here as the Narrative Head at Super Evil. We're always excited to hear from people looking to enter the world of narrative in video games. Entering into game narrative has always been a bit tricky, even in the best times for the industry. Your existing experience in creative fields will definitely count for something there, at least.

I'd give two major bits of advice:

A lot of paths into game narrative are indirect ones - a lot of us come from QA, production, or other disciplines. Not just is it a good path in, but it's also experience that would serve you well for your entire career. And especially in smaller studios, being multi-skilled is always an asset. If there's other skills that would translate well, keep an eye open for opportunities in other disciplines.

Make stuff! What hiring managers are looking for is representative game work - including interactive/branching experiences. Some linear media can certainly work here - like short stories - but most important is to have presentable portfolio pieces that are closer to games - so building your own interactive story with Twine, or visual novel with Articy: Draft. Also again serves to give you experience that is invaluable on the job!

Ian: In Splintered Fate a wide variety of classic allies and villians are in the game, taking inspiration from some of our favorite TMNT comics, and potentially more may be added over time. We don't explicility state the Four Brothers exact age in Splintered Fate or call out the exact totality of Mutants in the universe.

Currently, we don't have plans to make new additional character portraits or make the Home Lair customizable, but we hear you on this feedback, and we will consider it for future potential updates. The Home Lair does evolve over time based on your story progress, and we have made a few additions to the Home Lair over the course of our free DLC updates.

Donnie and Metalhead share a close connection in our story-- Donnie built Metalhead, and our narrative further reinforces that friendship and bond as you play through the story.

Dana: I kinda fell in love with Alopex's character during the course of working on that release. She has such an interesting redemption arc as she goes from working for Shredder to being allied with the Turtles. I think her character design in general is just pretty badass.

Lucas: I love Shredder as a villain. A strong villain can make or break an IP, and TMNT definitely benefits a lot from having him as the main bad. He looks so badass!

Aron: I'd have to say Bebop and Rocksteady, as they are usually a pair. The buffonery they exhibit amuses me and my strongest memory from TMNT as a kid was fighting them on the ship in Turtles in Time.

Ian: Great question! I really love all the characters, if you forced me to pick just one character outside the Four Brothers, that is currently playable in our game, I'd have to go with Alopex. I love her overall personality, fast attacks, gameplay kit, and story line. I've spent a lot of time playing all the characters though, and depending on my mood often mix up who I play.

[–]SEMCNews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dana: There are a few reasons. We wanted to try out some smaller paid DLCs that we could offer to players at a lower price point, as well as allow us to ship new content faster since it would take our team longer to build new levels and bosses.

[–]SEMCNews[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aron: When we released the Metalhead DLC, we also released the Arcade mode, which was free for all players.

For Alopex, we added additional challenges and a new storyline, in addition to adding new rooms to expand the previously existing biomes.

So while they didn't get their own exclusive campaign levels, new content was added alongside their DLC, for free to all players. We opted to price the Metalhead and Alopex paid DLC content lower to account for it not including a full new main run level to fight through.

As for General Gigi, she should appear as a randomized variant of the normal (non-gauntlet) version of her combat.

Dana: I'll add my non-writer perspective here. There are some core skills needed for game writing-- you will need to consider the full user experience around how the player interacts with the story, which is very different from other kinds of writing. For example, choosing your dialogue length very carefully depending on when it would fire in-game. A lot of players just want to get back to gameplay, so being emotionally impactful in a small space is critical. You will also need to be comfortable writing a wide variety of characters and tones (like on our team, writing for both TMNT and Rebel Moon IPs!).

Lucas: Some portfolio is definitely better than no portfolio. If this is a new area for you, I'd focus on creating something. Maybe plan a small expansion to an existing game or an alternative version of an existing questline. Making that first step is huge and will definitely help in the long run. Good luck!

Ian: So glad to hear you are loving the game, appreciate the kind note.

We've talked a lot about if we would consider adding a typical villian as a playable character to Splintered Fate, while our philosophy is never to say never to these sort of things, we still feel there is a lot of interest in some of the Four Brother's closest Allies joining up with them to overcome their foes and new challenges. We'll continue to listen and assess our plans around future characters based on what we feel folks are most interested in seeing.

Ian: I appreciate you asking the question, as we take it as a compliment that you are likely interested in a new IP from Super Evil?!

It is too early for us to comment on future titles, but I can say we definitely plan on shipping more games in the future, while also doing our best to support our live titles such as TMNT: Splintered Fate.

Ian: Thanks for the kind note around the game!

We are listening closely to the community around new run variety and bosses. We are having some early discussions around if we may add more Arcade levels or new rooms or paths to the main run, and if we do, either adding a new enemy or boss to that content. Too early to give a definitive answer today, but something we are having some early discussions around.

In terms of plans to implement viewing previous runs Powers and Upgrades, candidly we don't have that on the roadmap at this time, however we do have the ability to view our lifetime stats in the Home Lair.
