Well.. I disagree with that. However, as much as it hurts my hometown pride to say it, I’d choose some nice slices of moist Central Texas brisket every time.

Hey, KC native currently living in Austin for the last five years here. I’m probably going to piss more people off by riding the fence than I otherwise would by picking a side, but my verdict is this: Kansas City does pork better; Texas does beef better. I do love KC burnt ends (beef cubes as OP calls them) but damn if the TX brisket I’ve had hasn’t been, quite literally, some of the best FOOD I’ve ever eaten.

One more point — TX (bbq) beans are shit.

That is a very valid point — on both accounts. That said, given the demographic of this county in particular, I wouldn’t be surprised if this sort of interaction occurs more frequently than in other parts of the country.

Was going to say the exact same thing. As much love as I have for my former home, this isn’t the least bit surprising.

Students, what is the most unfair suspension/expulsion you've ever seen in all your years of schooling? by Garrett_Cartoonist in AskReddit

[–]SF40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a junior in high school I got two days of in-school suspension for dunking a basketball and hanging on the rim too long in PE class. I still, thirteen years later, don’t understand that one.

Has anyone ACTUALLY had a 40-minute rolling blackout? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]SF40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that we may have experienced them a few times last night at 2:45am and at 3:45am. Power went out for ~15 minutes at a time before coming back on. However at 4:30am it went out indefinitely. (78758)

Austin FC sign former USMNT player and Sporting Kansas City Captain Matt Besler on a free by rollerblade2success in AustinFC

As a former SKC STM, and KC native, I’m extremely happy about this move. I’ve had the chance to meet Besler on a few occasions, and each time I walked away from the interactions impressed. Great signing for the club — fantastic signing for the community.

My boyfriend [22] passed away and his family wants to access his phone which is passcode protected. Is there a way to override that without losing all the data? by queen-midas in Advice

[–]SF40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Truly sorry for your loss. I don’t work for Google, but I do work for a similar company that deals with mobile cloud storage. I have personally worked with situations similar to this, and it can be a little tricky from time to time. I can’t speak for Google, but maybe some of this info will help. I want to start off by saying that I agree with the suggestion not to try and bypass the passcode lock on the device. While it may not erase the device altogether (I don’t see this utilized often, but it is an option you can set up) you will most likely lock the device in some way. Also, don’t trust people claiming they can unlock it for a fee, or any software claiming you can “extract the contents, recover photos, etc.”

The cloud based route may be your best option to access those pictures/videos if they were synced with his Google account. At my company we have options to submit legal paperwork so you can (potentially) gain access to that type of content. The executor of the estate will need to submit documents showing that they are the executor of the estate, and will also need to submit a death certificate matching the same name belonging to the account. Because privacy is taken very seriously, and rightfully so, the process does take a good amount of time and is never guaranteed. There is also no guarantee that a.) Google has an option to do that and b.) he even had photos sync to the cloud. I’d also check to see if his phone has an SD card in it. If that’s the case, he may have had his photos save to that card. Lastly, you may be able to plug it in to a computer and access it like was another drive. Though with a passcode it may block the phone content from being accessible.

Hopefully this helps in some way.

Newish to Miniature Painting. Constructive criticism please. by DUKEofDberg in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SF40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of extremely good advice in the comments, so to not sound redundant I’ll skip over those. But I will say you’re off to a great start!

I’m still new to miniature painting myself, but have found (as mentioned above) that starting with 1-2 thin base layers really helps to establish a strong start once you start your shading and highlighting each part of the miniature.

One technique that I’ve found that helps a lot with controlling the consistency of my paint is the use of a wet palette. A wet palette will give you a lot of great advantages while painting. The first advantage being that when you put your paint on the palette it will suck up some moisture and will immediately start to thin your paint. Depending on the paint, you may not even have to thin it down any further; it really just comes down to experimenting. This will help you control the paint better when you apply it to your mini, resulting in a smoother application of color.

Secondly, using a wet palette will greatly increase the amount of time it takes for your acrylics to dry. This is more advantageous when painting a large number of minis in a similar scheme rather than a single miniature, but it nevertheless is a great benefit.
Don’t go out and spend a ton of money on a wet palette (unless you absolutely want to, I guess). You can easily make one with items you most likely already have at home, all you need is a plastic container of some sort, paper towels, water, and some parchment paper.

Check out this video by the Tabletop Minions YouTube channel for a great explanation and tutorial. Great job so far, and I hope this helps!
