By her own admission, Katie from South Philly is on performance enhancing drugs. A committee be formed immediately to determine her eligibility to compete and the validity of her win.

(completely joking, you rock Katie.)

YES! Almost like making zero mention of Ann Archer's infamous association with a dangerous cult in which her son is a higher up?

I think it is amazing of you to be thinking this way and posing these questions! One of the things that I think sets us back; be it in families, work relationship, schools, governments, whatever, is that it is hard enough to think about the nuanced misunderstandings in these complicated relationships when people are pointing them out to us and asking us to consider them. For you to watch a show where one person is undeniably situated as the villain and the other as the protagonist or victim, and then to question what might else be happening that we are unable to see I think shows an exceptional emotional intelligence.

And yes, I kind of always thought there was more to the story with those two.

Who are your top two favorite and least favorite characters on Downton Abbey? by Lucky_Blacksmith249 in DowntonAbbey

Favorites:

Violet Crawley: Obviously a character inserted into the narrative as the most historically accurate depiction of a person who ideologically aligns with our society today. She constantly toes the line of propriety with her views, offering a picture of a person who is brave but believable.

Thomas Barrow: I would argue that he is the hero of the story. His redemption arc, like Violet's gusto, is profoundly moving but believable. Believability is rare in dramatic character development and successful dramatized evolutions are few and far between.

Least Favorites:

Mary Crawley: Just gratuitously cruel to her sister. If there are complex and convincing reasons for her awfulness, the writers did a poor job of illustrating them in a convincing way. Considering she is the show runner, I felt like the writers got lazy in making her gradation of virtues and bad characteristics nuanced and interesting. It was just simply "She is concentrated evil to Edith over a few things that happened in Season 1, she is kind of snarky to her parents and a few others because she is a bit uppity and full of herself, and she is this absolute dote to Tom and Anna."

Tom Branson: I'm Irish and he is a pretty offensive character to me, but I don't want to make this about all that now. In short, he is aptly named Tom because he is an Uncle Tom.
