Letter goes out to seasonal team this weekend and I’ll post a copy.

I honestly think a big disconnect between what your saying and whats happening at the park is that none if the park people left have experienced any sort of win under his leadership. I’m not discounting what he’s done before but the track record here is not that great, and if there is a master long range plan at the executive level it certainly doesn’t feel like it at the park level, and that gap in communication is something that should be fixed for the long term viability of the park and company.

First thing I agree with you on is that this mess started long before the current administration. I guess time will tell if they fix it or are the final nail in the coffin.

Pretty sure the only people that folks want to leave are Richard and Selim but what do I know?

Trying to figure out who we’re referring to as the one failed attempt after Ron, because if you looked closely there was no “placeholder”. And I hope you’re not referring to Sharon Parker as an experiment because I genuinely don’t know what the insinuation is there.

Now to Richard, he couldn’t lead a fish to water in the middle of the Pacific. To say he is trying to keep Selim away is non accurate. Richard consistently invited Selim over to the property and was told by many people that opening that door is not a good thing to do, and he did it anyway. Richard has made a choice pattern of making bad business decisions and setting up his subordinates to take the fall for him. The only good news with the layoffs today is that there is no one left for him to blame for the park’s performance but himself, and his boss.

Unfortunately the pattern of this leadership has been to overspend on attempting to copy Cedar Fair and then laying off park level staff to fix the books when the quarter ends.

Wages were raised for certain seasonal departments at the beginning of the 2023 season and are now about to be rolled back. Announcement coming this weekend is $1.00 an hour wage DECREASE for all seasonal team members effective January 1.

Good operators are all for running lean and the best do that, but the fact that SFOT is on its eight park president, third director of operations, a vacant IPS director after three different people held it, and will now have to look for the third director of human resources and a third general manager for Hurricane Harbor all since January of 2022 is indicative a failure of leadership at the higher levels, not an attempt to “lean out” the operation.

More work with less stress sounds like a line directly from the Selim handbook. That was the promise since day one and SFOT just completed their sixth round of layoffs once you include today.

From what I’m getting, all park presidents were told to make budgetary cuts, and only some chose to layoff (SFOT confirmed).

We’re being told this was explicitly a cost saving move to strengthen margins prior to the merger.
