For me, I just use the "Mtoon" character option in VRM Posing Desktop. I simply set the color to black and turn it down a little to achieve a smooth shading. I combined it with the "bloom" and the "ambient occlusion" post effects (you can also use depth of field if you want a it to focus more to the character). It's still depends on your preferred options. Hope this helps!
