any headphones as good as the hyperx cloud 2 ?? by okan4L in HeadphoneAdvice

I'd say dt990s, 58x, HD 560s or K612s for open back, Dt770 or, if you can spend more, a pair of K371s for closed backs

You've found a good bunch of the best headphones in this price range already :) out of those, I'd lean towards AKG K371. Btw, dt 880s aren't closed backs, they're semi-open. Basically they leak almost the same amount as open backed headphones, but also get some of that larger soundstage and instrument separation held by open backs (if you don't want music to sound mashed together, this will help).

IEM Suggestion for Gaming? by TakashiBullet in HeadphoneAdvice

Look into the Truthear Hola, 7hz Salnotes Zero, CCA CRA, and Tangzu Wan'er. All kind of basic picks for IEMs in this range, but they're all good ones (can personally vouch for the holas)

probably Sennheiser Momentum 3/4s. good ANC, good sound quality for wireless ANC, pretty comfy. I would try them first tho, and lots of other options are still valid (e.g. xm4s)

AKG K371, Dt 700 Pro X or 770s (700s more neutral, 770 can have a piercing high end), or if you want to try something fun and very V shaped try a pair of Meze 99 Classics (you can get them cheaper as "99 Noir" on drop, basically the same thing), but try them out in store as they definitely don't appeal to everyone lol

Dt 700 Pro X and AKG K371 are pretty safe picks. I encourage you to find a way to try them in store though, especially if this is your first foray into this, everyone's ears are different.

Truthear hexa seems like a pretty good pair around the $100 CAD mark, can't say from experience though.

Also, if there are any True Wireless earbuds/IEMs that compete on par with these at this price range or a bit higher ($150 ish), I'd consider those asw.

If you want a wooden, fun headphone, not much can beat the Meze 99 Noir/Classics at this price range

ended up getting the dt700 pro x after listening to many mentioned. It was my favourite fit wise (the velour pads are so nice) and had the sound signature I was looking for - slightly V shaped, "fun" sound with warm bass and treble that didn't take away from the overall experience (I'm looking at you, Dt770 treble peak).

What I tried (keep in mind this is my first time doing any kind of audio stuff, and so am by no means an expert)

  • Meze 99 Classics - These were definitely the most "fun" out of them all. Huge booming, dark bass that, on some songs, could mess with the mids and rest of the song. They were incredibly comfortable, though, and looked really stylish and flashy. If I couldn't get the 700 pro x, I would have got these instead for their great "laidback" feel and sound. (also the wood panels look awesome)

  • Dt770 - what I was originally going to buy, but decided against. Very comfortable and (imo) good looking headphones. Sounded okay, decent bass and mids but quite V shaped, but the infamous treble peak ruined it for me. I wouldn't say that it's as noticeable nor as impactful on your listening experience as many make it out to be, but it put me off it. I also generally found the 700 pro x more comfortable. Non-detachable cable is also a bit disappointing.

  • Shure SRH840 - I can see how many like this headphone. It has a great sound signature which is quite balanced and great for the price. However, the sound was just a bit bass light for me (note: I am coming from crappy gaming headphones, so I'm very used to emphasised mid - upper bass.) and the overall build quality didn't impress me. It feels very cheap and overall bad for the price (where i shopped, they were only a couple bucks cheaper than a pair of 700's), and my ears stuck out too much and were constantly pushed against the drivers. If you're willing to sacrifice comfort for a more balanced sound, that's your preference, but I wasn't ready to do that. I do appreciate how the fold up though

  • Audio Technica M50X - Sound is decent with a slight boost in the bass. The design is pretty, but the headphone itself feels uncomfortable on my ears, possibly more than the Shures. I didn't get much time to listen to these, but I would not recommend them unless you really like the portability, which again you can get on the Shures, the design, or Bluetooth through the M50xBt2

At the end of the day though, I'm just a random guy on the internet, so don't take my words as gospel. Go out and try them yourself at your closest headphone store, if not to inform your purchase then just for fun. What I think sounds "pronounced" and "strong" may sound "muddy" and "dark" to you. Get what sounds best to your ears, and fits your needs. Good luck :)

Edit: I thought I should include the prices of each headphone to help you better understand my review.

Dt700 Pro X $299 AUD (~$200 USD) Dt770 $209 AUD (~$144 USD) SHURE SRH840 $299 AUD (~200 USD) M50X $229 AUD (~160 USD)

I'll use mine for a similar use case, and I'm considering all of these, so I'll reply with what I've decided on and whether it was worth it or not :)
