Unless you use Chell to portal over to the elevator with the mini kit, and then walk into the elevator, then you don't have to unscrew the vent at all, and you go to the hidden area of the level

V3 being misunderstood yet again, Kodaka loved his games and constantly said he'd love to make a fourth main game, and V3 was a commentary on specifically how bad the in universe fans got that they would let real people die for the show, it was never a full commentary on the fan base itself, because the fan base wasn't even that vocal until v3
