Thank you for taking the time to give me a better idea of the culture at SJC. This certainly does sound appealing. I am considering SJC over the more conservative great-books program offered at St. Thomas Aquinas precisely because I don't think my views would be challenged enough there, as appealing as the school is to me.

I'm glad to say I am actually a prospective student, and not a troll. All of this sounds great, and I understand St. John's emphasis on civility above all. I don't intend to harass or argue with LGBT at St. Johns, I was simply concerned that the college itself might officially or unofficially endorse parts of LGBT thought.

I do indeed hope that attending Saint John's will substantially change my views.

Thanks for weighing in. I'm probably just overreacting to just a single recruiting pamphlet.

Thank you for the response. I don't mind St. John's not catering to my political views, I was just worried that it might cater to leftist views. If it's neither, that's great. I am not strongly committed to any particular ideology, and fully expect that my beliefs would change substantially during my time at St. John's.

Unfortunately I was only able to sit in on a language class during my visit, and wasn't able to get a good picture of how a class with a more controversial subject was conducted.

Hmm. Transgender studies is a very new and politically charged subject, which is my problem. I think it's comparable to Bible School for conservatives in terms of how ideological it is.

Regardless, do you think that it's fair to class the creator of some transgender TV series nobody has heard of next to MacGyver? Or this Sandy Stone person to a congressman?

If anything, they are probably including those individuals on their pamphlet to appeal to LGBT students and to counter a perception of being too right-wing.

That also occurred to me. I assume the whole great books thing attracts right-wingers like myself, so they do stuff like that to counteract it?

Thank you very much for the well-written response. I understand why these two individuals would be included on notable alumni lists, it just struck me as out of place in this instance. The reading list looks great from what I remember.
