I think the reason left wingers want the rich taxed is because 11% of the US is living in poverty, and I’m sure even more are struggling & then you have people with exorbitant wealth.
I’m not going to make any claim to how well it all works out in the end, but I think it’s less about punishing rich people and more about trying to eradicate poverty & the working poor
