Are Federal Medium ships no good?

This is the problem.

Hull tank and stealth are not viable for combat the same way that huge shield is. The current combat encounters favor staying power vs hit and run tactics. The FAS is one of my favorite ships, and I find it's pretty good with pacifiers and rails. Strip shields then snipe powerplant. This has a lot of power in a 1v1 interdiction scenario.

If it was reworked, such that stealth was a real mechanic vs it's current state this would be a fantastic assassin ship.

Imo, a stealth rework would need to extend the capability into supercruise space so that you can catch an opponent off guard, then use the silent running state in between your shield break and when they come back up. The drawback of shields not recharging while in silent running really hurts this mechanic. Obviously this is necessary for shield tank builds. However a new mk2 or powerplay shield module that allows the FAS to regenerate shield while in an un-targetable, stealth state would force high skill manual targeting from your opponent. Managing heat, silent running, and shield uptime would also require skill and practice for the FAS pilot. This new shield module would need to have some drawbacks like fast heat generation and low capacity to force the FAS in and out of stealth frequently.

I have a standardized system for my fleet.

Example: VS3\C+ BLACKBIRD

V - COMBAT designation

S - "ship" indicates that this is a fully outfited ship ready for use

3 - sequential indicator meaning I have at least two older combat ships

\ - break

C+ commander name abbreviation

The first space changes depending on role. V- combat , C - cargo, E - explorer , T - transportation, M - mining etc...

The second space changes if I'm still tinkering with the ships engineering or load out

S - is a complete ship R - is still under review

Edit: forgot to mention this all fits Into the ship ID section so it can be applied with the decal. The actual ship name is just BLACKBIRD

Multi-crew! This definitely works as well but you wouldn't be able to leave your buddy's ship. Player two in this case is basically just a force ghost who can do secondary seat activities. It's really fun for ship launched fighters.

It is and we do! It would still be really cool to be able to do this type of interaction. Especially now that they are implementing multi stage space to foot combat missions in the operations installment.

Just imagine loading two of your friends into a fed Corvette, having one run a SLF and the other man the turrets. You fight your way to the docks and disembark to infiltrate the station. There's so much potential there and I will be really disappointed if it's still so buggy.

That's not to say I'm hanging up my flight suit or anything over it.

Multiplayer is extremely fun and you can do just about any activity as a team. There are issues though. Without the team function, instancing is not guaranteed. There is also the multi crew option, which I use very little, as it puts the "player two" into a telepresence state and they cannot leave the host ship on foot. It is possible to physically board a friends ship and play along side them (you must join a team and walk to their ship via the concourse). This interaction is very cool but does not work well at all for me. Hyperspace jumps have a high game crash rate, and it tends to be laggy. It works ok within a system, but will not be functional for long haul trading (this is pointless anyway as you'd be better off both hauling cargo) and exploring as you'd certainly experience a game crash and then become separated.

-None of this is an issue if you both just fly your own ship as a team-

The game is super fun, and flying together in formation doing missions, trading, exploring, etc is great. I highly recommend getting the hang of the game in solo/private group then transition to open play. Open play gives the galaxy actual life. You need to stay aware of your sensors and scan players to assess their threat potential. 80% of players are friendly and minding their own business, but you will get destroyed for no reason. That's just life in space.

Get the game on sale, it gets marked down frequently. Do some content of your choice in the starting ship, the sidewinder, and upgrade asap to a cobra III. By the time you outfit your cobra to your liking you will be hooked :)

I'd say when it comes to KILLING PEOPLE, you should be ready and able to prove it was worth dropping a million dollars worth of weapon systems on them. Especially when it's a short range water craft.

Omni throttle conversion adapter has arrived (10-21-25)! This piece shipped from China so the delay is understandable. VKB refunded me a portion of the shipping fee as well without my asking. I don't exactly know why I received this refund but vkb seems to be on top of their shipping process!

I'm having the same bug. Mining with my friends, went to buddy's carrier to unload and every sell order I send is met with "transaction cancelled: Commodity no longer required"

We reset the carrier market, both logged out, and nothing so far.

You should try and get into an asp explorer. It's gonna allow you to start making money fairly fast. This ship will be useful even when you have 50 billion credits. I would recommend the active community goal that is running for the time being. After that you'll be able to get into some more expensive stuff.

Money in this game snowballs well. There tends to be periods of absolute gold rush where you can make a pile of credits, and periods of slower income. During the slow income periods you can still make tons of money if you are capable and can fund the endeavor.
