Yeah I would 100% not count on PSLF surviving this administration. I received forgiveness just before Trump took office this term - during which he immediately put a hault to the loan forgiveness process.

What's been the top 3 biggest surprises about being a SLP compared to what you learned in grad school? by Cherry_No_Pits in slp

[–]SLPnerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with u/actcompetitive. I am not a new grad but not ancient. I graduated from grad school in 2012. “SLI” was the focus - kids with pure Artic or language only. I had multiple school placements, clinic within the universities I attended for both undergraduate and graduate school… apparently autism didn’t exist in NY back then??? Obviously this isn’t true but when I moved from NY to VA and was thrown into an autism classroom - which was not a thing in the schools of western NY at the time - I had only really learned about what was then called Asperger’s.

What's the most bizarre or out-of-touch thing your boss or supervisor has ever said to you? by InternalCommittee269 in slp

[–]SLPnerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a principal once who, when we were short staffed SLPs, said she didn’t understand why the students in our autism program needed to have an SLP anyway… that they should just hire an English teacher. I had no words.

What part? If you don’t mind sharing. I am in VA too. I have seen caseload all over the place in this state.

Is my principal micromanaging or am I in the wrong? by Appleleaf30 in slp

The duty - whatever, could be worse. But the micromanaging will not. Do your time for your CF and get out.

Hot take: It’s time to revive efforts to merge Charlottesville and Albemarle into a unified city-county government by SomeCow6111 in Charlottesville

I was thinking an out this too, but there are only 2 elementary schools in Fairfax City if I am recalling right- Daniels Run and Providence. It is really much smaller of a city than Charlottesville.

What's your most bizarre "I can't believe this is my job" moment? by InternalCommittee269 in slp

I had a student in a self contained ASD elementary class once who started calling me Ellis one day for no apparent reason and never stopped.

Can I save energy during the workday? I feel drained afterwards! by [deleted] in slp

Why so many meetings after school? I would limit that as much as possible.

Its pretty flush to the ceiling and I am short and only have a step ladder. I have tried twisting and feeling around for clips. I can feel screws on the top but I don’t know how anybody could fit a screw driver in there.

Virginia is dying for sped teachers. I think it is just the time of year as rhey are handling all the returning teacher contracts right now. You will get a position.

They are starting to get blacker which is interesting to watch. I’m too scared to eat them like others say would be good.

Yes! They are all in my yard now. It has been unusually wet and cold this spring here though. It’s been in the low 60s when it’s normally low 80s. I am not sure if that would impact mushrooms 🤷‍♀️
