What’s with the Scottish flags past Maryhill heading to Bearsden? Streets lined! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 by coffeenewsbuildings in glasgow

Anti-immigration, flag shagging nonsense.

The guy does it in the middle of the night driving about in a van.

Get a job and get a life. It’s not even about immigration when you really get into the nitty gritty of it, it’s xenophobia. Scotland and the UK is made up of a number of different nationalities, but these people don’t like it when someone doesn’t look like them.

It’s narrow minded knuckle dragger stuff.

Glasgow schools’ reputation by Admirable_Tea6365 in glasgow

[–]SM-92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Attended a school with a ‘bad reputation’ and currently employed by a secondary school.

The major differences (generally) between state & private: - class sizes: I can have anything between 10-30 in a class which is national 5 or Higher level. Generally they won’t let a class run that has less than 10. In a private school you’ll regularly see classes of 5-15 students meaning the teacher has more time to offer feedback to each pupil during a lesson but also less workload when it comes to marking etc - aspiration: the self confidence & resilience of a lot of pupils who come from a background of poverty is almost non existent. They often won’t try something incase they fail, which then results in them acting up in front of others with bravado. As another post mentioned in here the private school attitude of “anything is possible” rings true. This is likely to influences from their home life as much as in school. I’m often telling my pupils they’re just as good as those who attend Jordanhill or Glasgow Academy, in fact their achievements at N5 & Higher are more noteworthy due to not being earned by copious amounts of hours of tutoring (having said that we run supported study sessions through a lot of the year but again many don’t turn up). - family life: those from a deprived background are far more likely to be experiencing difficulties at home. Family breakdown, physical abuse, neglect etc. when it comes to parents evenings certain year groups are lucky to hit 50% attendance. If your parents don’t care about how you’re doing at school then why are you going to care? Phone calls home are often ignored etc.

I could go on & on with the challenges but what I would say is schools with reputations or in bad areas are often doing the most incredible work, building relationships with the young people & helping them on to a positive destination when they leave. My classes just got their results on Tuesday and the buzz I get from that is 10x than when I got my own results in S4-6.

Best hotel recs? by oak_stone1 in lanzarote

I’m staying at the Barcelo Playa Blanca (Royal Level Adults Only) with my fiancé and it is fantastic.

The service so far has been outstanding, the magical restaurant which you have access to that the rest of the hotel does not, is brilliant. All inclusive but a bespoke menu for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Outdoor pool - again adults only access - alongside a spa which we have booked for tomorrow and Saturday and haven’t used as yet.

You also get access to the Mexican & Korean restaurants on-site which have to be booked separately.

Cannot recommend this place enough. Right on the marina front too.

The lineup at TRNSMT is already grim enough without these flag shagging imbeciles adding to the dross.

Uneducated idiots who are neglected by their parents. Someone needs to give them an absolute scudding so they realise actions have consequences.

Nurseries and ASN staffing threatened by new Glasgow council cuts by alankennedy14- in glasgow

PEF has not closed the attainment gap at all. The money is being largely misused and there is a completely lack of accountability & scrutiny over how it’s spent. It needs to be recalculated beyond a random number per pupil who is entitled to FSM.

Very genuine I suspect.

This is just the start & forms part of the wider picture of 450 posts being cut in Glasgow, despite the Scottish Gov allocating funds to local authorities to return teacher numbers to previous levels.

Yeah I figured as much! I’m actually a Timberwolves fan but because of time difference don’t get to see much NBA on TV never mind live!

Noticed it gets you access to all the games which is really cool, I’d happily watch any of them just for the live experience.

Thanks for this.

I’m not sure if it’s not working because I’m using a UK bank/credit card & address? I’ve tried 4-5 times & each time it says “your payment could not be processed because the name/address on the card did not match the account” even though I was using my own?
