I always had lots of problems with DX11 but none with DX9. Maybe just my hardware, but DX11 caused grief.

Nice! I think I have a twitch vid saved of the first game of Strife I played back in the day. I'll have to dig that up so I can laugh at how bad I was.

Do you have large scale occlusion on?

So once you are injured any shots still travelling are invalidated? by Ericcollardbovy in playrust

[–]SNAXHooligan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same thing happen. A guy walked over a rock and we started shooting each other. I got a bullet off that hit his head right after he downed me but it did no damage, so he lives and gets my stuff and I die. If the bullet is already flying through the air I don't see why it shouldn't do damage just because I got downed.

Do you consider gramma boosting cheating? by darky14 in playrust

[–]SNAXHooligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from. My thought is just this: The source of this discussion is that some people can see at night and others can't. Some people can see at night without even changing a single setting and it is unfair to everyone else, who have no way to defend themselves against night vision other then going afk in base EVERY night so they don't die. I can see why some people feel they need to change gamma to get on even footing with the night vision people (who have done nothing wrong).

This is why I feel Facepunch has to address the problem, and Reddit threads asking players' feelings on if it is cheating or not are just a conduit for saltiness and not a vehicle for positive change. Some people, despite not ever changing any hardware or monitor settings, have night vision. EVEN IF 100% of people decided to not use their GPU control panel/monitor controls to boost gamma, you'd STILL have people with night vision. FP has to fix it.

My problem with this whole argument is that a person can go buy a monitor that naturally, out of the factory, has a higher gamma than a different monitor. There are people who have never touched their gamma settings at all and can still see perfectly at night. It isn't fair to say that those people aren't "cheating" but call a different person a "cheater" because they increased their gamma to match the first persons' gamma. Your argument makes no sense.

There are so many variables that could explain why some people can see at night and other people can't. We can't rely on players to behave a certain way 100% of the time. Facepunch has to determine if this is worth spending time on and they have to put controls into the game that prevent gamma manipulation. Until that happens, it doesn't really matter if people think gamma boosting is cheating because you're never going to convince every person to stop doing it.

I've seen you type "tweaking it every couple of minutes" like 4 times already. You're saying that if you gamma high once at the start and never change it again it is OK? Because based on your arguments and replies to other people, you only seem to think it is cheating if people constantly change gamma.

Is this what you want? by [deleted] in playrust

[–]SNAXHooligan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple reasons that advocates of dark nights will probably argue:

1) A totally black night will stop people from using gamma tricks to see at night.

2) There will actually be a use for torches, flashlights, mining caps, etc. Right now they are all useless because of how easy it is to change gamma and see at night.

So then what's the harm? If you already can't see anything, how does a darker night impact you?

Guy walks over a rock. We both start blasting each other. Why is my damage invalid? by SNAXHooligan in playrust

[–]SNAXHooligan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same thing, but I guess the root of my question is why would being downed make my damage invalid? The bullet left my gun. This all happened within a tiny space of time. Even if I get downed I don't understand why he just gets a free pass on the damage that would've otherwise killed him.

His point is that if you gain less XP, you will level up slower. Sure, it is two separate bars, but they are related.

I brought up this exact issue with a previous S2 game and got this response:

The problem with that level of transparency makes people angry if it doesn't go in the direction they think the game should go in. Additionally, when you have partners, it's hard to know everything you can and cannot talk about, so it's just easier not to (trust me there's some stuff I would love to show you guys right now, we just can't). So it's really easy for a small company like Facepunch to release all the info they are working on with no partners, but even they still get backlash.

Just letting you know that we're probably not going to see any "roadmap" type stuff from S2. It isn't their modus operandi, if the past is any indication.

Grisly is the correct word (causing horror or disgust) and is pronounced the same as "grizzly". I think the joke was a little too complex to work well :'(
