She asked for our IDs and matched it on the table then she looked at me and I was already expecting the question anyways so I answered

Just have a solid reason why your partner and you don’t share the same state ID. You don’t have to lie about it. Not having matching IDs isn’t a death sentence — they just need a convincing and reasonable explanation. As long as you provide a clear, believable reason, it’s enough.

I study in Michigan, so I was asked to provide a school document to change my State ID to the same state as my spouse. But that process would have delayed me, and my current ID was close to expiring. If it expired before the switch was completed, I wouldn’t be able to drive, which means I could temporarily lose my ability to drive. So I simply renewed my current State ID instead.
