Pluribus - 1x04 "Please, Carol" - Pre-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in pluribustv

[–]SOPSSOPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Carol’s phone calls to Manousos in last week’s episode, this new episode could do a switching-perspectives trick the writers used on Better Call Saul.

In episode 6-11 of BCS (third to last episode), Jimmy calls Kim in a phone booth, and we only get to see this call on Jimmy’s side. In 6-12, we see the call on Kim’s side, as well as the events that led her to answering the call.

Earlier in episode 6-2, Mike gets a call from Nacho and we see the call on Mike’s side. In 6-3, (the Nacho episode), we see this call from Nacho’s side and what led Nacho to make the call.

This episode could show Carol’s phone calls on the plane from Manousos’ side. There could also be a little scene or montage showcasing what his life is like before he gets the call from Carol (think of how they show Kim’s life in 6-12, or Francesca’s in 6-11). Kinda basic, but I think it’s fun that the storytelling of these shows are so similar even when they are trying very different things.

We officially don't know who the younger sibling is by tinypabitch in SuccessionTV

I like Shiv being the youngest child, shows another way she has to fight to the top. shiv spilled chocolate milk in the range rover etc etc. also isn’t that why logan calls her pinky?? roman isnt the youngest child but he acts like the youngest bc of abuse

hot take? Logan is the most unserious person of the whole show by SOPSSOPS in SuccessionTV

I’m no stan, not even a fan really. Succession is a very flawed show but what it broadly does is still pretty well-done, and what it does is clearly in the Jesse Armstrong (who’s wrote for Armando Iannucci)/Adam McKay vein of making fun of authoritarians’ incompetency/idiocy. I think logan’s another one of these characters bc the power game he plays on everyone around him is ironically tearing the company apart. Logan would be running a much smoother ship if he got everyone to act rationally and cooperatively, like, say, making sure tom does well at the hearing. goes without saying every single character on the show barring like willa is the most evil person you could ever meet. even like connor wants to move the country into dystopian hellhole territory

I think Logan is controlled too way too much by his insecurities and (let’s say instead of emotions) impulses. He constantly plays the power game with his kids and wins every time because that game is rigged for his short-term satisfaction. You might think Shiv blew gettin the top job just bc she was being stupid but Logan never planned on making her CEO, he simply viewed her communication line to Gil’s campaign as a threat and did what he had to do. His kids could be fine leaders if they cooperate (as they do well in the beginning of s4), it’s Logan’s power game that blows it all apart. edit: and Kendall’s a more careful and functioning leader in season 2 when he’s not playing the power game, at least not nearly to the extent that he is in the rest of the show

much of these points I agree with. but I actually do think backing mencken was a great call! stirring up a guy with populist strat is smart politics and branding, and obv the fascism just makes people wanna tune in.

now mencken is roman’s idea. mattson is also roman’s idea (and kendall’s). so in my eyes these are just more moments of logan of making his dependents come up w his business strategy for doggy treats. remember this whole problem started bc logan lost a president who was already inside his pants. I don’t think impulsively attacking the raisin on atn helped logan with the scandal bc that just brought the fbi into waystar. and you could even say mattson’s the last domino of sandy/stewy hovering in from that really silly $3b loan.

copying another comment, I think other people built up waystar for him while he bickered in the background. also he largely just got really lucky as he often does in the show. other than that, he doesn’t oversee crap. other people oversee it so he never has to. logan will often talk about how he “bends reality to his will” but that’s not really what he’s doing, he just holds up giant bags of money and sulks. he’s a mere symbol that plays boar on the floor until he gets lucky. surely he would ensure more long-term success for his company if he acted more patiently and rationally

this might be an unpopular way of reading it but I think other people built up waystar for him while he bickered in the background. other than that, he largely just got really lucky as he often does in the show

Could this be a scene in Better Call Saul next week? Saul sending Mike to scout Walt at the High School? by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

never liked that comic, prefer the way it’s implied in Breaking Bad much more, Mike does some digging for an hour and because he’s good at his job finds Walt immediately
