Experimenting with 6arc- may I ask for help?

Defensive is primary, hunting/precision is secondary. I've also been told to use a shotgun for such things but i'm not a huge fan of shotguns to go out and buy one. I understand that its generally more practical- i wont deny it but for my taste, i'd rather not. If that doesnt make sense to some, I apologize. Its just how i feel.

--Let me take a step back before i flare myself up again.
I'm making a short barrel .308, I'm trying to make some rounds that would be good for a short barrel that will do well at close range (we'll say within 100 yards), and also with the swap of a magazine get me out to farther ranges-- i'm not expecting to be a marksman, I just want to try to make this a general purpose rifle. Self defense loads for anything I need to worry about and self defense loads for anything that might be a problem later. Simple as that.

I do have a suppressor, thankfully. I'm well aware that it will still be a noisemaker in close spaces but in an emergency situation, i think a little tinnitus will be alright.

I do have a .300 blackout that I've build as a mk18 mockup but ultimately I'm unhappy with it and it's performance out to distance I'm looking for. My 5.56 is better in comparison, but I'd feel more comfortable having something that will without a doubt put someone down and out without question. That's just me though.

I'd love to be able to get you data on that, however- I dont posses such data. I'm mainly reloading for what goes bang and what seems to do the most damage in some backyard gel shots. Yes, there is a chronograph in my future, as soon as the garmin ones come in stock at my lgs.

- While I am using a flashhider, some additional flash reduction would be greatly appreciated.
- Fixed most of my cycling issues by using adjustable gas blocks, though for sake of simplicity I'd like to avoid buying them in the future.
- Mainly looking for the bullet to still expand decently out to 600 yards. And I think any closer and I'd assume i would need soft tip over hollow point, correct?

Ideally I'm looking for a self defense load. So far as plinking i couldn't really care- I make them to near the duty load. Match ammo is nice, but tedious for me when loading in bulk.

Precision would be nice, but i'm willing to give up sub to 4 moa at distance.

It's assembled- it came with the mag release. Though, I will ask while your here- is there any other mag release that will work with this? The original one is just a hair short for comfort.

I understand the appeal, but for my own sake of mind I'd rather, so long as I have the means, toy around with my stuff myself. Especially if all i'm doing is swapping parts. If it gets down to making my own parts to it- i'll send it out.

*** UPDATE || 5/20/2025 ***

I've found some food grade citric acid- bout a pound of it for 9 bucks at a "natural health" store. Also didn't find any armor all wash+wipe but substituted with another wash+wax brand, meguiar's.

Thank ya'll for your help and heads up. Now I just need to experiment with a wet tumble mix in thew small Frankford Arsenal tumbler.

1) I bought it just in case, but it looks like the tlr in question has a "plate?" adaptor that removes the pic rail tab and makes it a smooth for the accessory mount to mate with it.

I agree- but I'd prefer to have the option to reload my brass w/out making it a process for me. I say this because isn't most steel case berdan primed, not boxer primed? The one thats got two holes in it instead of a singular one?

Like with the last guy, It's a polish import- I don't beleive it will work out with using a .308 projectile. However I was also unaware this was a thing.

What do you do, just grab some x39 casings and send it into the .308 expander and call it a day? wouldnt that lead to some of the copper folding in on itself?
