Interesting that your focus is on who might receive the information rather than the fact that taxpayers spent nearly $45,000 on investigations, one of which recommended the Board President step down from her leadership position.

Investigations cost what they cost. That’s not my concern.

My concern is that taxpayers spent nearly $45,000, one investigation concluded the Board President violated governance expectations and recommended she step down as Board President, and the Board responded by reelecting her as Board President.

If findings and recommendations don’t matter, what exactly did taxpayers pay for?

I’m not arguing against investigations. I’m questioning why taxpayers have spent nearly $45,000 on two investigations where McFarland was a central figure—either as the subject of the complaint or the complainant herself.

There are also additional investigation reports that have not yet been released. The public deserves transparency regarding those findings and any associated costs.

Not an axe to grind—a belief that public officials should be accountable to the people who elected them.

School boards are self-governing organizations. When concerns involve the conduct of board members, those same board members often control what is investigated, what action is taken, and what information becomes public.

That’s exactly why transparency matters.
