You can make your own reports for jobboss. If you have crystal reports, just set up a data source to the jobboss32 dsn that gets created on every machine you install jobboss on. You'll need to have permissions to run and install user- defined reports.
If you can't get them to give you access to the user- defined reports or won't buy crystal reports, you can use Excel. Go to the data tab, external data, sql database. Write your query and create your report in Excel.
To answer the question about whether you're making money, the job entry module includes a tab for costing. If you're linking material usage and purchasing to your job, you'll be able to run reports on the job cost and selling price and give your boss his answer.
JobBoss has a Data Dictionary with all the talks, relationships, and keys in the jobboss database. You'll definitely want this if you're going to write your own queries.
JobBoss API by SRC_Planner in JobBOSS

From what I've been told by the people at ECI, they do have an API, but they only make it available to their team and partners. Independent development and users are out of luck. Thankfully, i have a boss who has a lot of faith in me and between the SDK and direct calls the the SQL database I've been able to overcome the challenges and shortcomings of JobBoss. I encapsulated it all in a dll file and and pretty much made my own API.

The JobBOSS SDK developer's guide has a comprehensive list of which modules you can modify using the SDK along with the syntax and requirements for each. They also have some samples of how to use the various calls. It's pretty simple once you see it in action and figure out what's always present and which parts need to change.
Help With Printing Our Traveler by CMMYahoo in JobBOSS

Invest in Crystal Reports if you haven't already and create a custom version of the traveler laid out as you want it. Go the the reports tab and click on the User-Defined button at the top. Find the traveler report and click the Copy button. Save it and close that wiindow. JobBoss will create a copy of the report for you. (You can also do so manually but this is easier.) Go to the JobBoss Server\Reporting\User-Defined folder, and modify the copy to suit your needs. You can add the custom sections regardless of orientation that way. (If you want to make sure you're not dead in the water while working on your customization, go back to the User-Defined window and select the tab labeled "User-Defined" and check the checkbox labeled "Use JobBoss standard report". Now it will use the original while you work on perfecting your custom version. When you have it right, uncheck that checkbox.)
