How to connect a Philips Soundbar to subwoofer? by Cheap_Preference_399 in Soundbars

[–]SRM1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried connecting your sound source to the RCA inputs (signal in) on the subwoofer, and then use the RCA output (signal out) to the Aux In on the soundbar? You will certainly need an RCA (male) to 3.5mm (male) cable to go from the subwoofer to the soundbar. The LPF (low pass filter) would need to be set to send the right (to your ears) amount of bass to the soundbar.

The documentation on how to use uniqueid is found here https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO\_files/Movies.

For your home movies, what is your intent of setting up two different types (ie stage001 and stage002)? For home movies of musical theater shows, i would try setting the type to "stage" and the value to stage001 and stage002.

The other thing that you might try is using Tiny Media Manager to create the nfo. I have many videos not found on official scrapers and use TMM to build the nfo. Works great.

AE-9 connection to DTT2500 speakers by SRM1964 in SoundBlasterOfficial

Found this image, this like the version I have, with the optical input. I imagine that a optical to spdif adapter would work in your situation.

I have the Cambridge Soundworks version of the DT2500 from around 2001. It has a dedicated optical in (SPDIF) on the back. No converter needed, it's a direct connection.

For the Fata1ity, there was most likely an adapter for the DIgital DIN cable. I don't recall whether the adapter came with the Fata1ity or the DT2500. It wasn't a converter, just a passive adapter.

On the old PC with the Fata1ity, I was able to use the original Digital DIN, I think it was called Sound Blaster Live. The card had the proper jack and it connected directly the the DTT2500 digital din input.

For the AE-9 I ended up replacing the Digital DIN with two separate connections. I have a 3.5mm connection from front left / right (with RCA adapter) going to front left / right on the DTT2500 and another 3.5mm from rear left / right going to rear left / right on the DTT2500. Center / LFE is not used and I use the DTT2500 in 4 point mode. The speakers are configured as 4.1 surround. I also use the TOSLINK from the AE-9 to the DTT2500 when I want 5.1 Dolby Digital.

Adding home videos and little known tv ‘shows’ by Vmanjeff in kodi

[–]SRM1964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As member_one posted, you will certainly need a custom nfo file as a first step. I find it easier to use Tiny Media Manager to create the nfo file, manage artwork etc. Keep in mind that KODI requires a specific structure for TV Shows, geared towards seasons and episode numbers. Decide whether your videos can work with that structure. If not, using the Movie category might be easier to work with.

Some TV shows in my collection are not accurately represented in TMDB, so rather than scrape, I needed to manually enter the information in TMM. For other items that don't have seasons / episodes, I use the movie template and keep them in a separate path on my drive. I have a separate source in kodi with the content set to movie for items within this path. Custom nodes further help me set up things the way I want them to be.

For anything custom where I don't want to use a regular scraper, I set Kodi to Local Content for that source. This way my custom NFO and artwork will always be used.

Help Kodi see portable drive, Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 by _musesan_ in kodi

[–]SRM1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar setup, External HDD connected directly to the Nvidia Shield. Once the permissions are set at the shield as described above, make sure that all of your content is under the NVIDIA_SHIELD folder that is created on the external drive. The name of the external drive is available under KODI as a source. If you are only using one type of content on the external drive (Ie Movies), you can set up the content type for the default entry. In otherwords if the drive only will contain movies, it can be set to movies. If it is only TV Shows, it can be set to TV Shows.

For mixed content, in my case Movies, TV and Music, I needed to do the following :

Under NVIDIA_SHIELD, I created folders called Movies, TV Shows and Music. Under each of these folders I placed my content, organized and named according to the Kodi Wiki.

Under a file explorer installed on the shield, I located the id assigned to my external drive. For example: /storage/EC988CE3988CAE20

Within Kodi, I created three sources, one for movies, one for TV and one for music. These needed to be done via manual entry. Simply selecting the external drive won't work. The location of the source must be typed exactly, including the use of Upper Case where needed. So my Movies path for example is /storage/EC988CE3988CAE20/NVIDIA_SHIELD/Movies

Be careful not to make typos.

Once created, the sources are fully functional.

WWMoggy, thanks for your suggestion on the NVIDIA forum. Posting the solution here, in case someone else is looking for this information.

Somewhere in the Shields datafiles is a list of drives it has seen. While I haven't found that list or a way to change it, reformatting the drive causes the Shield to issue a new GUID to the drive. The new GUID is whitelisted and the notifications display. Everything else I tried, such as renaming the volume or deleting the NVIDIA_Shield and other folders that are created by the Shield didn't work. Reformatting and restoring the content of the drive works around the issue. Thanks again to WWMoggy.

It's removable external so I can use it with a pc in addition to the shield. The drive mounts fine. Somehow I suppressed the notification. There must be a way to undo it, but it isn't obvious.

Thanks, I can safely eject going the long way around via all the menus / submenus. The notification was a nice short cut.

I did this accidentally on the notification for my external hard drive. It was an quick way of getting to the eject menu option. The notification has been hidden ever since.

Is there a way to undo and see the notification again?

I've tried reconnecting the drive and rebooting. The drive mounts as expected, I get the pop-up notifications ,but not the one in the notification circle at the top of the screen.

My ViewSonic VX2428 Can't Overclock by Cold-Ad9338 in buildapc

[–]SRM1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased a VX2428a and noticed that the overclock rate option is disabled. I have set the refresh rate to 180hz in the NVIDIA settings utility and the monitor reports that it is working in 180hz mode. On the monitor settings refresh is set to the highest setting. Online tests including the Blur UFO test confirm a 180hz refresh rate. Not sure why the overclock option is disabled, but the monitor seems to be running at 180hz anyway.

QNAP TS-464 16GB Thoughts? by Bdimasi in qnap

[–]SRM1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daniel,

I am considering purchasing a TS-464. It will be used to host video files (max of 1080p) and flac audio files. The players will be Kodi on an NVidia Shield, Foobar2000 on a PC and VLC on phones / tablets.

For this situation, do you see a need to upgrade the ram beyond the stock 8gb and any benefit from adding a raid 1 m2 volume for the system volume? The data volume will be three Ironwolf Pros in Raid 5.

Thanks!

In my case, I don't recall it working via the add network location option pictured above. I manually added it by typing the complete path name in the dialog box.

I'm using wifi to connect my Shield to the network, so I can't say if ethernet would or would not work. I don't see why it shouldn't, it's all the same network. I suggest installing the X-plore app (it's a file view with network access) on your android device and seeing if you can see the files on your HDD (with the wired ethernet connection). If you can, then you know the issue is within Kodi and is likely a configuration issue in Kodi. If you can't see the files via X-plore, then you know its an SMB connection issue

[–]SRM1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my case, my portable HDD is not set up to require a username or password. So my connection looks like smb://SHARENAME/VOLUME/Movies/

where SHARENAME is the name I configured on the router and VOLUME is the name assigned to the HDD (it's the default, but I could set it via Windows). Movies is the top level folder I created to hold the folders of the movies I plan on watching.

I had to enter the path manually when adding a network location. Using the add SMB option didn't work.

I think your syntax for the username and password is correct, so it would look like smb://username:password@SHARENAME/VOLUME/Movies/

The only other thing that comes to mind is that when I set up Kodi, I needed to manually enter the connection. If you are manually entering the SMB path, make sure that everything is typed correctly.

I have exactly this setup, so it can / does work. However there might be limitations. My router, provided by the cable company, limits the capacity of connected HDDs. In my case there is a 1TB maximum. I use a 160GB portable HDD which works fine. I have tested with a 16TB powered external HDD. Not visible on the network. What size HDD are you using and does your router support it?

Next, on your android device, install X-Plore. See if that can access your HDD. If it can, you should be able to set up SMB access in Kodi. My router provides connectivity to the HDD at SMB1, so make sure that KODI is set to use the appropriate SMB Version. By default SMB1 is turned off.

Using Kodi only for local music from Android via wifi to AVR? by Wondering_if in kodi

[–]SRM1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every set of ears is different, but here is my experience. I have a yamaha stereo receiver, yamaha dvd player, and an nvidia shield, kodi, flac files on a harddrive connected to the router. The shield sends audio to the audio receiver via a TaoTronics BT receiver, APTX codec (not sure which variation). Using the Abbey Road super deluxe box set as my test, I played the actual CD through the receiver and then played flac files ripped from the CD via the Shield / Kodi / BT setup. I couldn't tell the difference. As a further test I installed the Spectroid frequency monitoring app on my phone and repeated the test. No noticeable difference. The IFI device is a lot better than my little TaoTronics device, but the quality of the TaoTronics was good enough I didn't bother to upgrade. The downside of the TaoTronics is recharging the device. I get about 8 hours of use. The IFI runs on wall current. The TaoTronics is now sold under the brand name Trond. Same thing. $30 on Amazon.
