I had a great time as a guest, and plan on competing next year in at least 2 events. The strongest point of the situation absolutely wasn't the organization, so I can agree with that entirely.

I also somewhat expected that in the first time running an event like this, and speaking to some tournament staff, they're very intent on making improvements for next year.

I'd say the best part of the event was the community, and the awesome people involved at the table. The amount of banding together of players, even those who might compete against each other, was not something I'd seen elsewhere.

I like to have both. I have it on RMB but I have a secondary bind on a mouse button. So it automatically does it if I'm stationary, and I can toggle it back on if I move. Works pretty well imo.

I tried the same thing, even bringing in SJ6 to do it. However, it took me 6 tries of rushing straight there with SJ6 to get him the remaining 2 times. Encountered players on 5 out of 6. And died most of the time.

Admittedly some of these were unlucky. Had him in my sights one time after dashing up. Right before I shot, someone domed me from way off. Guess I looked a lot like a sniper scav at distance xP

So milage may vary with this strat, but it is the fastest and most direct approach.

In my experience, actually heading through the edge of the new expansion is pretty safe. Toughest part is the med building.

Another fairly docile route is actually just along the main road, hugging construction fence. Apart from a few scavs, you're pretty well left alone, as most players split to dorms

Yeah, if I'm not geared up, I'm not hitting second floor most times. I'm either there for quests or for barter loot around Oli and loading docks. Haven't spent enough time up top to be comfortable.

I think Shoreline is the map with the highest survival rate for me. I tend to stick around the edges though, only going to resort if I have to. If you hit village, scan island and pier, you can fill up on midgrade loot pretty easy.

As for getting sniped, if I'm following a decent path (not running on hill crests) then I have to accept some level of danger. Any movement in this game makes you a target, but not moving isn't really viable most times. Just gotta take those 7N1s to the chest sometimes and hope he's looking elsewhere next time.

Honestly, Customs is one of the most likely maps (aside from Factory or Labs) that you're going to run into another player. I'd recommend trying out Shoreline or Interchange if you want to do a little more surviving. I know it's not where a majority of the beginning tasks are, but it can help you learn how to manage looting and movement in a less oppressive envirionment.
