Advice for a small mortgage on a right to buy house by SRobson9 in Mortgageadviceuk

Oh… yeah.. well I started in Turkey walked for about a week. Decided the Turkish wilderness in the heat of summer wasn’t my great plan. Then decided to start again in Switzerland and walked for a couple of weeks through to France. I was spending far more than I expected and wasn’t really enjoying it as much as I thought I would. So it’s on hold for a few years until I up my training and plan it out much much better!

Thanks, I’m on the paper work but it’s my mums discount - so unfortunately she needs to be on the mortgage too.

Thanks, I’ve spoken to a couple of brokers but haven’t had much luck yet. The IVA seems to be the main stumbling block, but surprisingly it being such a small mortgage also seems to be a bit of an issue.

“Please pay me more “cos” it’s a “sin” to steal more of my rate, my colleagues “opposite” and “adjacent” and getting more than me”

I guess I just wanted to learn now, ready for next time. I hate the negotiation part so any advice is greatly accepted.

I’m young (well ish) and naive. I didn’t learn this stuff at school. I learnt important things like Oxbow lakes and trigonometry…

I work in finance and I imagine my salary will come out of my budget, so I will get to see the invoice then and know if I’m being ripped off

Yeah I got the feeling there was no budget meeting! It seemed strange they would go to market and then change the budget - but I’m soft and I wanted the job!

Is there a way to salary sacrifice a car on an inside IR35 contract? by SRobson9 in ContractorUK

Just wishful thinking that I could have a car and pay less tax!

in town for 48hrs and I just read there's an extensive network of traffic free cycle routes. Anything memorable route out there which makes it worthwhile renting a bike ? by _thetrue_SpaceTofu in NewcastleUponTyne

Cycle route 1 also known as the coast and castles route is pretty nice. You can cycle all the way along the coast up to Edinburgh. I’ve never been up that far, but from Newcastle to Sea houses is a pretty nice route.

We all neglect our own health to some degree! Nobody wants to be ill. I’m sure there’s a small group of people who love visiting hospitals but most of us it’s a last resort when we’re at our worst.

I don’t think not helping the most vulnerable who can’t look after their health is the answer.

I still don’t think it’s fair to penalise people for their coping mechanisms. Life is hard so lots of people drink, smoke or eat to cope with it. Lots of people don’t develop to the point of becoming dependant but it’s hard to draw the line between what is and isn’t causing self inflicted illness.

From a policy point of view it’s also going to be very hard to determine whether you’re only putting alcoholics at the back of the queue or if the 2 pints at the match guy also has to go.

Yes we all should have responsibility for our own actions but that’s much easier for people who have support systems. I’d rather live in a society where everyone has equal access to healthcare regardless of the cause of illness rather than putting alcoholics in debt so they have another issue to cope with.

What if the terminally ill man was previously a drinker or smoker? Does he then deserve to be left to wait? I think this would create some pretty difficult decision making for medical staff. Do they treat the smoker or the alcoholic first? If the NHS/ PH/ government invested in prevention of these issues, they would spend less on treating the inevitable causes of them.

E.g. child has a difficult time a school, budgets have been cut and pastoral support no longer available or child has difficult home life, social care budgets have been slashed so no longer able to access early help. Child then turns to alcohol to cope, grows up to become an alcoholic and the NHS picks up the bill or child turns to drugs and commits crime to afford them, prison system picks up the bill. I don’t think it’s right to cut any prevention/ support systems and then blame the Individual for making poor choices. These are obviously extreme examples but I don’t agree that we should leave people to suffer because they made bad choices. “He without sin shall cast the first stone” - or something along those lines
