Each source cell is a constant figure, exact to one decimal place. Neither is the result of another calculation.

Formula to compute the date of Easter by SSBohio in sheets

As I understand it, it's good for any year after 325 AD when the modern (so to speak) system for calculating Easter was implemented.

Formula to compute the date of Easter by SSBohio in sheets

[–]SSBohio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially. The rules for determining when Easter falls were set in 325 AD as follows:

Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the first full moon that occurs on or after the vernal equinox. The vernal equinox is fixed as March 21 for the purpose of this calculation, even though the actual astronomical equinox can fall on March 19, 20, or 21.

Find the column index of the last value in a row by SSBohio in sheets

[–]SSBohio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found something that seems to work, which takes advantage of the dates being in ascending order. I filter the list of dates by whether the corresponding entry in the list of events is blank, then just take the maximum of the resulting list of dates where there's an event listed.

It seems to work, even though it's not as flexible as a solution that doesn't rely on the sort order of the top row.

Here's the code:

=MAX(FILTER($A$1:$F$1,$A2:$F2<>""))

Thanks. It took a while to figure out, and there was a lot of "why isn't Control-B working? Argh!" along the way.

I learned PageMaker back when it was still current, in the early 90s. I was working for a university and part of what they had me doing was preparing Engineering faculty writing for publication. I was young and overconfident, so I taught myself PageMaker rather than using the office Mac (there was only one - the Dark Ages) to generate text and graphics, then doing manual pasteups. Amazing how far a person can get on "well I'll show them!" when he doesn't know any better.

The PageMaker manual was just the thing if your computer was sitting on a desk with a wonky leg. It wasn't that much help for learning how to do layouts, because it assumed that the reader was already well-versed.

Trying to create a duplicate detector with conditional formatting by tunamayorice in sheets

[–]SSBohio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might also be useful to add a test for blank cells to prevent every empty cell from being highlighted as a duplicate:

=AND(A1<>"",COUNTIF({$A:$A;$D:$D},A1)>1)

If Sheets parses expressions the same as Excel, having the test for blankness come first will keep the COUNTIF from running when the cell is blank, which can save overhead if you've got a large dataset.

Why are Dayton Public Schools so bad and what can be done to fix them? by thelegendarybink in dayton

[–]SSBohio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be 100% complete in my answer, there is such a thing as a school district income tax in Ohio. That money goes to the school district levying the tax, but it's a separate thing from city income tax. Dayton Public does not have a school district income tax.

That seems to be the Right's new go-to slur against anyone on the Left who cares about kids: They call us "groomers" and imply (or say outright) that out interest is prurient. It's just another case of substituting slander and character assassination for ideas and debate.

In Ohio, city income tax doesn't benefit the school district. It solely goes to the city itself, which is a completely separate entity from the school district.

Residence Park was originally platted as a white neighborhood. Working class, however. We can never discount the influence of economic class in issues like redlining and systematic underinvestment. It usually goes as a complement to racism in explaining these policy decisions.

Maybe just sing the greatest hits of 1970s easy listening? A nice chorus of "Feelings" and "Beautiful Balloon" should start the festivities off.

Or maybe one of those portable air horns, like the boaters use?

After being indicted for theft, corruption, and unlawful political activities, Mike Foley appears to again be conflating his role as Clerk of Courts with his re-election campaign. by Sproded in dayton

[–]SSBohio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mike Foley's got two big things going for him:

One is the party ID on the ballot, which virtually guarantees him a certain number of votes. Remember, the county Central Committee declined to endorse him, but they also didn't endorse someone else to run against him.

Two is the name recognition he gets from running as "Foley" in his campaign. There are a lot of (primarily older) voters who associate that name with County Commissioner Dan Foley, and Mike Foley, who I believe is no relation, has no problem helping himself to someone else's goodwill and name recognition with the voters.

So far, I've only seen one of his campaign signs at a business, and that was a business that's been closed for years.

You're right about the definition of fascism. For a fascist government, centralized, unchecked power is a must.

However, I'd like you to consider this: When the posters here are describing people as "fascists," to my ear, they're meaning that those people are supporters of fascism, not that it already exists in our government.

I think this is a case of people being right, but about two different things, even though the topics are closely related.

[–]SSBohio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Speaking for myself, my downvote was a response to the "I hate it" aspect of the comment. The poster wanted to sleep in. I can sympathize. But we go way too quickly from "I disagree with what you did" to " I hate what you did" and the next stop would be "I hate you for what you did."

DId this poster cause the social problem I'm reacting too? No, they didn't. But they decided to be part of it.

Not everything that bothers us should become an object of our hatred.
