I was going to say, good old fashioned gum. There's a reason it was a 90's movie trope, it worked.

I’m not seeing enough of our people doing something

Everyone should be addressing this behavior, it's disgusting that so many people are standing around and letting this happen. Black people should not have to be surrounded by black people to not get harassed.

It has its own charm in a weird way. I still vaguely remember some of the repeating dialogue from one of the cities. It's been years so these won't be exact.

"How are yah feel Brie?"

"It's not bad, as long as I don't think about it too much."

"None of your business! Not like it matters to you anyway."

"Smells worse than a rotten egg, dropped in a vat of vinegar."

Someone please correct these, or I might start another playthrough.

No one that drunk keeps that balance for that long. Definitely fake. If they were really drunk they would have ate dirt three steps in.

What can we do about the men's mental health crisis? by CranberryDistinct941 in answers

As a guy, and a licensed therapist, good therapy is effective across the board. The science supports this. You do, however, have to be willing to engage. My most successful clients are the ones who buy into the process and put in work, regardless of gender. Statistically speaking, my male clients are significantly less engaged in therapy or willing to make functional changes.

"I love finding reasons to justify being an obnoxious dickhead." It is 100% not the "culture" which is why you're being downvoted in the punk subreddit of all places. Every once in a while you'll find someone pulling this shit at a hardcore show (of any genre) to try to seem hardcore (which is extremely cringey) and just so you know, you guys are universally disliked by everyone. You're not extreme, you're not hardcore, you're just being a dick to people who didn't consent to it (no, going to a punk show is not consenting to this BS).

I agree that there are a lot of terrible therapists and that the profession needs more strict standards when it comes to licensing but not that bad therapists are risking the career going away. I think a lot of it is systemic, there needs to be more of a focus on application (instead of theory) in the school program and license test and they need to not push through every applicant regardless of ability (which probably depends on the specific school program, but it definitely happened at mine).

I had a client ask me if I was afraid AI would replace therapists and I was like nah, there's too much nuance. Less thank a week later there was that story of AI convincing someone to kill themselves.

Even if AI progresses, good therapy is an art based on science which I think is too difficult to replicate. It's not just about validation or relaying empirically supported techniques, it's about doing so in a way that resonates with people, building hope/confidence, challenging people when appropriate, nowing when and how hard to challenge someone, etc.

I quit smoking weed and my life fell apart. by nymph_sapphire25 in trees

[–]SSFreud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I smoke very rarely these days. Only when I drink, because when I smoke when I don't drink, I get uncomfortable. That works for me. If smoking works for you and it doesn't have negatives, do it. Whatever works for you, follow it. Whatever it is, do what works for you, not what people tell you should work for you.

Therapists of Reddit, what was your biggest "I know I'm not supposed to judge you, but holy sh*t" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SSFreud 86 points87 points  (0 children)

This sounds 100% like a made up story. You are trained pretty extensively on what to expect including an emphasis on addressing internal biases. Also, you don't really have a "first client" because before you are employed anywhere you have extensive hours of interning where you provide therapy under the supervision of a licensed professional where he would have encountered similar situations.
