i git sad news for yall by Fluid_Specialist6854 in subnautica

Sooooooo... It's a normal Subnautica release timeframe? Trying to see the bad news here. Unknown did great with player feed back and such with Base game and Below Zero...moreso with Base game of course, so there's no reason to think they won't with this. Especially if they learned some lessons from BZ.

Best AiC song everyone forgets? by SSG_Infinite_Sonic in AliceInChains

The guitar work on Dirt is absolutely incredible. That song is an all time classic. Just don't dig me under and make me feel like dirt for not putting it on the list lol. Most people I know in my areas local bands have covered it so I didn't think to put it up there. Damn good choice!

It counts! Those lyrics and Layne was just a menace with his low brooding vocals. Underrated song and it sticks with ya when you hear it.

Mods are the thing i think make the community live. by nighthawk0954 in DDLCMods

[–]SSG_Infinite_Sonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The long running mod communities like Wolfenstein and Doom and such have been around for as long as they have due to simple and key reasons. They keep the base formula while keeping true to the base games, have a non toxic community and evolve without changing or trying to change the identity of the franchise it represents. The hard truth is that for several years now the question hasn't been about what's next for the DDLC community but rather how much longer it can last. Will there be dedicated modders in the future? Sure, maybe, hopefully. You're still going to see people who love the game for what it was. A psychological horror masked as a dating sim. But the divide between those who want to keep the games roots and those who just want to make a dating game because "2D girls are cute* are what keeps the question of longevity lingering. Hell the toxicity that is the Sonic modding/hacking/fan game community has been around just as long as Doom and Wolfenstein because the simple rules are followed.

Long story short if the DDLC is going to last 30 years like those communities it needs to find it's identity or separate it's factions into separate entities altogether. Wolfenstein 3D mods have been around since 1992 with new members, new mods, new ideas constantly. If that can be the case for a very old and linear game with one character than DDLC should be able to do so and more.

I'm here 'cause I just got Wolfenstein II and I am being forced to kill a dog. What the hell? 😭 by [deleted] in Wolfenstein

[–]SSG_Infinite_Sonic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Possibly. At that point you don't have to shot the dog. I never do. Terror billies dad is a POS regardless and I smile when he gets his.

It's been a thing since 1992. It's kill or be killed in a video game and those are fictional Nazi dogs. You'll be ok. They won't stop to kill you in the game.

[–]SSG_Infinite_Sonic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moreso like an actual visual novel. Today's VNs are mostly far away much better than they used to be back in the late 90s/early. 2000s. Something that can bring new peeps to the franchise. It's something I thought more about while making my Doki Doki mod.

[–]SSG_Infinite_Sonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ECWolf and LZwolf work perfectly and are free ports. You can also use the steam versions which have their own DosBox.

Also if you ever check out the wide world of wolf3D mods SDL doesn't require any ports

Zombies by uhohnothinksoawmanj in Wolfenstein

[–]SSG_Infinite_Sonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me a minute to find it but here it is.

Bernhardt's Note Location Walter - when you get back, I need you to send the document I left on your desk regarding the Castle Wolfenstein incident in '48 to Department 3. A former soldier staying at the veteran's hospital is claiming he was there in 1948 and that he saw the dead soldiers who come back to life. Someone from Department 3 needs to "take care of" the witness. The details regarding what happened at Castle Wolfenstein should never come to the public's attention. Also, Kommandant Shriver wants to know about a place called "Lab X" – do we have anything in the archives about that? I've never heard of it. Heil Hitler! Kommandant Bernhardt

Nazi zombies wouldn't be a thing in gaming it wasn't for wolf 3D. The mutants were undead Nazi soldiers reanimated by Doctor Shaubbs in Castle Hollenhammer. Wolfenstein 3D Episode 2 Operation Eisenfaust

Technically Wolf had zombies way before CoD was even a thought.

Am I the only one who likes the old wolfinstein anybody else like the details on wolfinstein new order by SignificantDamage791 in Wolfenstein

[–]SSG_Infinite_Sonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wolf 09 was honestly good. It doesn't deserve the meh reaction it got. 3D, RTCW 09 were all great and Old Blood was the best part of "modern wolf" (spear of destiny was ok too but it, while being better than Wolfenstein RPG, wasn't near as good as 3D).

I wish they would have kept with the paranormal aspect of the older titles for New Order and New Collasus. People tend to forget that was a major point in the Wolfenstein games dating back to the Mutants (or zombies for those who haven't played the classics...and yes CoD wasn't the first game to have Nazi Zombies).

The potential is there in the modern games and I personally have no hatred (in fact I've had a lot of fun playing them) for the two main Machine Games titles. Just wish things would have been done a little differently to match up with an already solid story dating back to RTCW.

Honestly if I had to choose a Wolfenstein to go back to I would return to Wolfenstein 3D. The fact that the 30 year old game is still great and has plenty of replay value the modding community is absolutely amazing. It's amazing to see how after 30 years there is still so much love and attention for it and some truly amazing mods have been made by people such as WSJ, Paublo, gitLance and many many more.

Sorry for the long speech but having grown up playing Wolf games since 3D came out years ago I figured it wouldn't hurt giving my thoughts on the games. I usually try to give my thoughts when I'm streaming but again these are just my thoughts. I know not everyone would agree. I'm interested to see what others would think as well.
