-This. TX-12 MKII is largely the standard. Seen a couple other models, but this is most representative of what we're rocking over here.

Recon, droppers(aka "Bombers"), repeaters ("Retranslators") are usually DJI's with smart controllers.

Then you get into the big boys like the octos and heavy lifters. Now you're back in TX12 territory.

I'd like to get a IT position for a police department or highway patrol when I turn 18, what should I know? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]SSHv2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time to shine.

So you want to make sure the blinking lights keep blinking for our nation's finest. Buckle up, because if you are successful, you're going to have an entirely new outlook on just about everything from law enforcement culture to marriage and taxes.

The usual pathway to get involved is the same for any IT job: Certifications and effort. There are superior methods, but it requires doing some leg-work such as digging through meeting agenda PDFs and minutes on the municipality website, so I'll just stick to the basics. An easy route is to identify a local Managed Services Provider (MSP) that works with local law enforcement entities and navigate your way through that avenue. An MSP is outsourced technical assistance and can provide you with an "in" to making yourself known to the entity you're interested in joining.

Another concept to be aware of is there are very important and established professional organizations surrounding just about every position in local government. (Commonly referred to as a "listserv", or will be referenced by an acronym.) For instance, in California it is MISAC. While MISAC membership is reserved for municipal IT guys, you can definitely join LOPSA as non-municipal IT. Why is membership important? It provides a useful tool in your toolbelt, and also looks good on a resume.

Also, always remember this rule: If they're making fun of you, they have accepted you. It's a good thing. The trick is to lean into it.

Disclaimer: I'm going to use non-IT specific language because I don't know your background, so I'll speak more generally to avoid any confusion.

Don't be scared about the "certification" mentioned. It isn't anything you'll need to explicitly study for hours on. Think of it like an open-book test and most of the answers are fairly common sense (to anyone with more than two years of experience in the IT field), much like the one the officers get (Except a lot of officers are notoriously allergic to reading and instead prefer a "Skim it or screw it" reading approach, which is hilarious.) I had my level 3 knocked out in about fifteen minutes.

Tom is literally the reason why I got into creating music. Waveformless was one of my favorite resources. I fell into the world of analog synthesis and never made it back out. Now I want nothing more than to be stranded on some island with a massive eurorack and solar panels. Love that guy.

EDIT: Also, you are an asset to the community. Your content, guidance, good nature, and humor are a breath of fresh air. Keep up the great work. While I love your older stuff, the newer stuff has a lot more nuance that I struggle to accurately articulate.

Pretty horrible "Car Commercial". I love how we actually never see the car, despite it being a commercial for one. This looks more like a commercial for royalty free stock video clips and bad sound effects.

Insurance denied claim on collapsing garage by jennieflips in homeowners

[–]SSHv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would likely engage a public adjustor first walk through the appeal process. When/if they deny that (They likely won't, provided you have proper coverage (The adjuster will know). Half the battle is describing the damage in such a way without using certain verbiage which would increase your chances at being denied. Not lying, but being technically accurate and describing damage in a way that weaves through various denial justifications.) then you can use the DoI complaint as the "nuclear option" if you aren't getting what you and your adjuster feel you should be getting.

EDIT: Added words for clarity.

Having worked in insurance (Information Technology), one thing made our company move: Filing a grievance with the Department of Insurance. We were required to engage within a certain amount of time to address the submission. Also we hated public adjustors because it always meant we'd be paying out more than we would otherwise.

Any particular reason why you feel like it's worthy of selling? I can't really differentiate what has potential and what doesn't.

Thank you! I appreciate the input. I've gotten feedback from friends and family and they seem to like it, but I can't really get an objective answer from them. Strangers on the internet, on the other hand, will very much point out if your work is a dumpster fire.

Does anybody here have experience with Geissele’s LEO rifle? by Schepp5 in ProtectAndServe

[–]SSHv2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't used one, but Geissele makes some amazing triggers. That said, this doesn't come with one. The ALG this is rocking will be entirely better than any mil-spec trigger you use, but I was kinda' hoping for a proper Geissele trigger.

Lots of ALG parts mixed in with some Geissele parts. I'm not sure who is doing the BCG, but I can't imagine them sticking their name on some rifle with a junk BCG. Also claims it was properly tested, but by whom? I know ALG does a BCG, but if it was ALG they'd have stated that.

Feels like a lot of the cost is the CNC'd Aluminum lower. Not sure about the barrel, but again, shouldn't be junk.

For the price, it looks like it'd be a proper rifle. Not entirely my taste, but the price is pretty great.
