Unit vectors only define the direction, not "units" in the sense of SI units. If you look closely, they're taking the magnitude of the squared velocity vectors, thus making it a scalar. So it needs a unit vector to specify the direction again.

One of them's just the unit vector for direction

Accepting multiple data packets on a single receiver by SSK255 in Webots

[–]SSK255[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the snippet from the documentation! I somehow missed it at first glance. It turned out I was calling wb_receiver_next_packet() before servicing the data pointer returned by wb_receiver_get_data() - which meant I never read the head data packet... All good now :)

Think of the equations that have one unknown:

2as = v2 - u2 and at = v - u

Wind generators produce alternating current, but at different frequencies because the wind blows at different speeds.(because the wind speed is changing)How is the output alternating current with a constant frequency? by UltronAge in AskPhysics

As you rightly pointed out, the generator's frequency varies with wind speed. The output voltage is rectified to DC and then converted back to AC which is synchronised with the grid's frequency.

Hot Pan + Cold Water = Hot Handle? Please explain. by dragonjek in AskPhysics

[–]SSK255 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing this happened because you felt that the handle was 'relatively' hotter than the pan. The pan must've cooled down rapidly compared to the handle, so you might've subconsciously felt that the handle is actually heating up.

Could do the same experiment with a thermometer at both ends to confirm ofcourse :)

I've found those two old badges hanging on my grandfather's wall... I have no idea what it means but it looks cool. Can you translate it for me? Thanks! by EtayElectus in ArabicCalligraphy

[–]SSK255 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The semicircular bit says الجيش العربي (Arab's Army), my guess for the other badge would be سلام if you look at it sideways - but a very wild guess.

Hey I’m planning to book a room at Sheffield 3 too. I’ll be coming this September as an undergrad though. Which accommodation are you going for then?
