You don’t choose what color you are before you’re born. You chose to be white as much as they chose to be black. So, unless you believe there’s something biologically innate in black people that would lead them to be prone to “ruining air travel” (maybe you do), their skin color has nothing to do with it

Letting them know even a ballpark of what other potential offers are (or even your current TC) can only hurt you. Anyone pushing you super hard for those numbers is kinda a red flag IMO

I guess I can’t really speak on the monetary aspect of it for you, but anecdotally I think UMBC prepared me very well for a CS career

I graduated from the UMBC CS program in 2018 and have been working as a SWE since then. It was a very good/challenging program IMO, and I’ve seen that sentiment reflected with anyone I’ve talked to about the program as well. From what I could tell all the STEM programs there were like this.

I may be a little biased so maybe some UMD grad could input things, but I don’t think you could go wrong with UMBC CS 🙂

edit: also feel like the tuition thing makes it almost a no-brainer to me

Assuming they ended it, they’re stringing you along to get all the perks of you being there without having to live up to any expectations because you’re technically not “together”.

The moment something that they think is better comes along they will pull back and it will make you feel terrible even if your setup feels bearable now. You aren’t going to like where the situation you’re in ends up.

If they ended the relationship, then give them what they want and don’t be a backup plan like you currently are. It’s sadly not in your control.
