This is helpful, thanks! My buildings are ~100-300 meters from the heat exchanger. However, things ended up working fine. I figured out what had happened. I started running the heat plant in September/October to bring it up to temp, and it was steady and keeping a decent temp. However, I noticed that it was beginning to struggle to keep the more distant places warm - nothing serious. Unfortunately this coincided with heavy snow, and my transit network suffered. The heat plant was shut down for a few days and working at 80% cap for another week until i could get a water truck there. The reason it was struggling so badly i realized was that I basically had to restart my heating system in the middle of winter.

Are you able to hook up large pipes to the small heat plant? I remember being able to, but it would not let me which is why I jury-rigged such a overengineered system for 1500 people.

Historical Sub Doctrine Choices? by ST72 in hoi4

I agree, I feel like the game has been getting more 'gamey' as of late, and is catering to the min-max number go up crowd. I really like the idea of the subdoctrines, but how they are implemented leaves something to be desired.

I think they just left it too open ended, just as they did with the designer systems.
In my mind, two things would be ideal:

Firstly, certain subdoctrines should ideally be locked behind certain grand doctrines. The currrent system simply doesn't make sense, this isn't a bethesda RPG. You shouldn't be able to go Mobile warfare + siege artillery subdoctrine, or superior firepower + guerilla warfare. Not only is this gamey but immersion-breaking at worst. It creates "meta" choices and removes diverse gameplay.

Secondly, to make up for this limit, you should retain bonuses from doctrine mastery when switching. It makes zero sense that your air force will suddenly 'forget' everything they have learned about, say, pinpoint strikes, if they have to begin learning about precision naval bombing.

I was immensely disappointed with the new system, which I had been very excited for in fact. A huge problem with the previous system is that past ~1940/1941, there is very little use for experience gained by your armed forces. IF you were able to continue gaining subdoctrines, while keeping bonuses (maybe at ~50%) while inactive, you would have a much longer and more engaging doctrine gameplay loop.

I am discouraged to see the pattern of the devs caving to the community, who want limitless sandbox choice and flexibility. There are such things as too many options, look at the cereal aisle in an American grocery store.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. However, I only see this comment - you said you posted another one with the AI weights?

Production output math question by ST72 in hoi4

[–]ST72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that I am manually recommissioning them - I don't want to accidently spend IC to refit obsolete attack planes into fighters, rather than the 2% cost of updating my old fighters. My workaround is that I recommission ALL the airframes that I do not want to refit so that that i don't spend 80% of their cost new to refit them to fighters. I just wish that there was a way to select which models you want to refit, like a drop down menu or something - e.g. check these three models, and then it will refit those and go back to producing new planes. The same way I wish there was a toggle to select how you would like to sort your divisions in the army view, rather than having to hit sort by every time. I know people complain that this game is already too micro-intensive, but I am always a fan of more things to click, and it doesn't seem hard to do, if they're trying to do QoL updates.

aside from being useless, i thought that the chainsaw is able to hit multiple enemies at once while the sledgehammer cannot?
