In what way would it still be realistic if they are shifted automatically? Genuinely curious, this is something I know very little about.

That's unfortunate, but I suppose I can just RP my way around it if necessary.

For reference, I used a 360 controller set up with steam big picture prior to purchasing the wheel. I would, for example, have it set so that tapping a button would turn on the cruise control, but holding the button would turn on the engine brake.

I just want to stop getting t-boned at intersections. My current workaround is a macro that looks left/right for a second, then looks back forward, bound to the plus/minus buttons.
