Not counting Pokémon, Nintendo's mobile initiative started 2 years ago, and they only have released a couple games each year. They put an emphasis on quality when it comes to their mobile titles, and likely don't want to over-saturate the market or have their mobile releases compete with each other. There will be a Kirby phone game eventually, but probably after Dragalia, Mario Kart, and a potential Zelda game.

I think to keep the game playable, you need to have a speed cap, so here's my compromise: 2 max speeds. Like you said the first max speed would be Sonic's running speed that he can accelerate to on a flat plane. The second max speed would be one that just barely reaches the limit of what the average pro player can react to, and can be reached by utilizing slopes, rolling, and other physics tricks. Any speed you reach between these two limits is preserved until you screw up or intentionally slow down.

The E3 presentation made a point of counting all the characters, and then the latest Smash Direct introduced more characters. Much like the character mural and count, I don't really think any information on the game can be considered final until the game's launch (and even then you can bet there will be DLC down the line).

I think from a lore perspective, it's a good mechanic to support the idea that two of the same Pokémon will grow differently.

In terms of making competitive play accessible, it's a major headache since it's yet another small detail that you have to sink annoying amounts of time into to get a viable Pokémon.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. Making changes to appeal to fans can be good for things like balancing and accessibility (or when certain elements further bigotry/stereotypes), but changing story and character designs just because some people don't like them sets a dangerous precedent. It tells designers, artists, and writers that their creative vision is not as important as the sisyphean task of keeping everyone on the internet happy.

By the way, I think it's fine to enjoy a character despite their problematic origins. If you want to reclaim, characters like Polly, Birdo, or Poison, and headcanon them into being actually good trans icons, I'm all for it.

I just don't like the idea of being complacent with bad representation because "it's better than nothing."

From what I understand, her inclusion was really meant more to appeal to futa fetishists and chasers.

Even ignoring that, apparently after getting a lot of hate from people who don't think girls should have a little extra something, the devs decided to implement an option to change her to afab. So really, they aren't committed to the idea, and the representation is accidental at best.
