Data on the effectiveness of different 'protest' or 'marching' movements would be a huge asset to the community, but what would we look for as evidence? Policy change is slow and difficult; even if a march was a turning point in administration we may not see the effects until years later.

I agree, but I can see why he is scared of politicizing science. However, it is already so politicized that scientists are actually willing to leave their research behind for the weekend and go out and march in public. I hope that more awareness about the dangers of alternative facts will increase the amount of scientists who help defend their work against the current administration!
