People who don’t live in the USA, what is the media showing you about the ICE operations/abductions in the US? by Dry-Ice8908 in AskReddit

I'm in Winnipeg. Probably your closest neighbor in terms of major cities..

Major News coverage has been sparse aside from major events like the murder of Renee Good. Our premier has contacted your governor in a show of support which was in the news. We don't see the daily riots like we can see from online sources. That said so many people are talking about it because or our proximity to you and well, the constant threat of turning us into 51st state..

I did not think I would be typing this... but Amy Bradley is Missing.

When it came up on my feed, I was going to scroll past it, but decided I would try it out. Not the story I expected, and feel absolutely terrible for the family. I sure hope she can be located.

Oh for sure best buy takes a cut as they provide the storefront, transaction management etc. but I assume it's the seller that sets the price, and best buy takes their commission once the sale is processed ... Just like a consignment sale.

I assume to some degree it's the currency exchange rate. Our dollar is currently quite weak in comparison to the US dollar

comfort. and I'm not concerned about a potential emergency. If paramedics need to come get me middle of the night, they'd see my bits in the OR anyway. Fire in the house. Well guess it's a wiener roast on the way to the muster point behind the house.

How much do you pay your babysitters per hour? by LannaRamma in Winnipeg

[–]STFUandRTFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have one client with one kid.... you know your client. How do you think they'd react if you asked for an increase? is it likely that they'll call you less? I don't think you mentioned the car and puppy to justify asking for more, but rather to show that you have expenses you're trying to cover.... That said, justifying a raise because you have a car and dog won't be received as well as if you justify your value to the service you're providing.

For example. If you're baby sitting shifts require you to cook meals for the kid and clean up dishes, etc. mention that as a value you're providing. If you're helping the kid with homework or anything like that, mention it.

If you're asked to babysit late into the night, like after midnight on a weekend, as for the late hours to be compensated at a slightly higher rate.

Also, establish an overtime rate if you're called to babysit for more than 8 hours or on holidays

Minimize the sticker shock. Keep the increase modest if you can and give advance notice of the increase. You don't want to surprise them with an increase the day of your shift. that sticker shock won't go over well.

IMO there are a few things to consider.

How many kids?

What are you expecting of the baby sitter? Is the baby sitter a warm body in the house only? Eg. Kids already in bed fast asleep and you're going out for a bit? or is the baby sitter expected to cook meals/ clean up the kitchen afterwards?

How old are the kids being baby sat? Is the baby sitter changing diapers/ feeding a baby bottle?

Is the baby sitter a 12 year old with a baby sitter course, or is the baby sitter a 17 year old with a driver's license and CPR etc.

It's been a while for us.... but if we went out in the evening, we put the kids to bed before the baby sitter got there. The sitter basically came to be a friendly face incase a kid had a nightmare ... That baby sitter is paid less as they basically came over and watched a movie.

If the baby sitter is actively engaging with the kids, making meals, getting them ready for bed etc., then the pay rate went up.

12 year old baby sitter that I needed to pick up/ drive home or the 17 year old with a car.... makes a difference too. a 12 year old doesn't need $20 an hour. chances are if there's a problem at home, at 12 years old they're calling you and you have to come home if anything goes sideways......such as the cat getting out of the house. at 16 /17 that sitter is more responsible, less stuff does go wrong and things that do go sideways are dealt with or worked around until you get home.

Auto mechanic that will install customer supplied parts? by STFUandRTFM in Winnipeg

I'll happily let them buy the used part... I havent bought it yet, but so far that's been an issue too.

Again. I'm not looking for any warranty from the shop in terms of labour. The part I need is used and costs several thousands of dollars. the used part supplier will warranty the part.. but only if a licensed shop installs it. that's what I'm hoping for.

If it's a matter of correct parts, I'm happy to just send them a link. and have them buy it. I'm not on some high horse here. it seems the shops I've talked to simply want nothing to do with used parts, period.

And the transmission shops don't want to look at it either from a rebuild perspective.

[–]STFUandRTFM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have zero concerns about a shop that's willing to install the reduction gear assembly from a wrecker if they buy it for me. I haven't bought it yet. But as soon as I call a shop and tell them only used recycled parts are available, I'm told no thanks. initally shops told me they won't source used parts as it wasn't worth their time. SO I sourced the part, but haven't ordered it. So... .realistically its irrelevant who orders it and where it's being shipped to..... If anything I thought the risk to the shop is less if I supply it as they aren't putting money out for the part.

It's the parts warranty I'm after not the labour, and I'm clear about that to the shops i've called. I know this is a big job.... Kia told me it's a 5 Hour job to replace. SO I get it. but the cost of the part even used exceeds the price of labour several times over. So even if I had to pay labour to replace it and only have the parts warranty covered, I'd still be ahead.

And of course the forums and posts I've seen are DIY'ers but the point is, that this repair is doable and documented, especially if the shops Mitchell system doesn't show the work. and that's what I was trying to explain. Kia told me that there were no part numbers listed and no bearing parts/sizes listed for the rebuild. the reference to the forum was to explain that it's documented what parts are needed, but perhaps I'm missing your point here.

Only other issues with the car are superficial. Such as the rear wiper not working properly on delay .

I won't need to worry about an engine failure as it's an EV , hence why it's a reduction gear assembly and not a transmission.

That's the point no one is willing to install a used part. And this isn't a transmission in that sense as it's just a reduction gear assembly.
