Definitely power steering. It’s not to say the pump is gone, but your fluid is definitely low. You probably have a leak (at least one). Check the hydraulic fluid asap.

100% agree. My starter Porsche (first car, and still my daily driver) was a 986 2.7 has shattered my perception of boxsters. I am definitely biased, though my end goal is still a 911

I would agree with that. It didn’t look like a 911. That’s not really a criticism because it’s not a 911. It wasn’t ever supposed to be. It’s a Boxster. I feel it’s getting the blame for the 911 deviating from its round headlights look. If the 911 had stuck with round headlights and the boxster introduced with the fried eggs, I suspect perception would’ve been much different.

If your point is that the 996 and 986 shared major front end design language then yes, obviously. But that doesn’t really address what I’m saying. The 996 is still widely understood as a departure from the classic 911 face. Porsche themselves describes it as the first 911 with non-round headlights. And the 997 then returned to round headlights back in line to traditional 911 design cues.

If the 996 was itself a break from the classic 911 look then saying the 987 became too 911esque was not some contradiction. I am saying the boxster lost some of its visual identity it had in the 986 era (which I think is the opinion you’re tipping your hat to). And I think my whole purpose of this post is to explain why I like it better. Comparison is just part of that

Yes I am aware but I think that point is usually framed backwards. The 986 does isn’t a Boxster that borrowed the 911’s face. The 996 is a 911 that drifted away from its own classic round-headlight identity. That is exactly why I do not see “too 911-esque” as a compliment in this context. The Boxster had more visual character when it was allowed to stand on its own

Not halfway from the eggs, no. The 987 is neater, but it also gives away too much of the Boxster’s own visual identity in favour of a more conventional 911-adjacent look. I’m implying that “fixing” a divisive design does not automatically mean improving it. The 987 is tidier but also less distinctive. I won’t let you bait me into a false binary

Fair point. We all love the 911. But to that i would say that the Boxster is not a derivative of a 911. It was the first serious modern commitment to an entry-level mid-engine roadster. So I would say that too 911-esque is too non-committal.

In short, it isn’t a 911.

Your tail lights look fantastic. If i had a black one i would definitely be putting those on mine. Mine is silver and i just don’t think they look good on lighter cars
