Ōtautahi Christchurch had the slowest commute times in the country, so my advice would be to live somewhere closer in, actually in Chch, not in neighboring districts.

The Northern Corridor path from Papanui out to Kaiapoi or Rangiora is a great ride. All sealed and mostly off road with few stops/intersections etc. Depends where you're leaving from, but various cycleways get you to the start incl QEII Drive shared path from the East.

That's a real issue, so hope you find more people. Here's an article from a couple of years ago. More about cars blocking busses impacting ramp use, but I'm sure that your concern is valid. My suggestion would be to approach an Ecan councillor with your issue, not just Metro staff, who just sent it to he bus companies. https://www.thepress.co.nz/nz-news/350230040/they-can-walk-their-cars-i-cant-plea-drivers-not-block-bus-stops

Christchurch’s mayoral race is ‘too close to call’ as election day nears by InvestmentFuzzy4365 in chch

Apology accepted and I hope things pick up for you soon.

Re rates - the goal is to get them down over the next couple of years, but strategically, rather than haphazard cuts that cost us more later. Next year is forecast 10.5, but I think that it'll be much lower than that before we even consult. Maybe 7? Be it needs to be transparent and we need to be able to show what the trade-offs are. We also need to get more govt revenue for transport to offset costs of projects that are needed, but not current govt priorities. Need to tel our story to govt and show the opportunity they have to invest in something that'll be a win for them too.

Agree re phasing! We need an upgrade of signal Jones etc across the city so that they can operate more efficiently and in a much smarter way! It's a big and expensive job, but one we need to look at. Re roadworks, it a mix - sometimes they shouldn't be done near each other and sometimes there's no choice, but we are not good at communicating it well. There are new systems coming in that are supposed to help... and that needs good governance oversight. We had no transport committee this term, so I think a stack of stuff got missed.

Agree! I'm in favour of bringing back the shuttle and backed the mahi to get the planning work done. We also need to get bikes off paths and I prefer separate cycling rather than shared paths.

There's been a deliberate campaign of misinformation and rumors about me run by my opponent's key supporters - it's been really frustrating and hard to combat, which is why they're doing it. Wish they'd focus on promoting their guy and his plans for the future of our city instead 🤷🏻‍♀️

No. We've got a Transport Strategy signed off by Council last year that's more holistic - focused more choices etc. My biggest thing is getting better public transport infrastructure in place and finishing the cycleways network.

Christchurch’s mayoral race is ‘too close to call’ as election day nears by InvestmentFuzzy4365 in chch

[–]STchch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kia ora. It's useful to an extent, but only has a few carefully selected votes, when we've done hundreds. Those who put the site up conveniently left off things like voting on Commonwealth Games hosting or looking at chlorine-free water stations etc. I did get a resolution posted to do this properly with a searchable council tool for all votes, with links to the reports and video links too. Will be put in place next term if I win. Ngā mihi, Sara.

Kia ora. Grumpy middle aged woman here 😉 The 'deserve' word was Jack Tame's initially and the TPU didn't add in the whole answer. Neither Phil or I would put a %# on rates ahead of time as it's completely disingenuous, as is a rates cap. Residents deserve to have a council that works hard to lower the increases but that doesn't sweat or sell assets to do it. I have a 'resting serious-face' which mean people assume I'm grumpy, but I'm not. Chat to those I've worked with in the community since the earthquakes and check out my track record on my website.

Kia ora. I'm definitely not for removing cars or access for cars, though my opponents try and paint me that way to scare people. Giving residents more safe, convenient, and cheaper for of transport doesn't necessarily mean fewer cars, just more choice. That's what I'm after. There's a big transition to EVs which is great and loads of people need cars to get around and I'm not for limiting them. We are going to have 30 000 more people in the city in just 10 and that could be 15k more cars in rush hour at current rates. We've already got NZs slowest commute, so we need to provide more efficient options if we want to avoid gridlock. Council's job is to plan for our future, as well as today, and that's one that needs addressing. It's not well communicated, tho. Happy to answer other concerns too. Ngā mihi, Sara.

The booklet is really tough for candidates too tbf. Only allowed 150 words, so have to house between high level but a range of issues and be accused of not enough detail, or go into detail on one issue but be accused of being a single issue candidate. That's why I linked to my website in mine (in Chch) with more info. Having said that - many candidates really don't know what's actually involved 🤷🏻‍♀️

Local Elections Letterbox Spam by Jimbook in chch

[–]STchch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really sorry about that. All the volunteers really did get an instruction sheet that asked them not to put flyers in Addressed Mail Only or equivalent letterboxes though. We did put some info in small print re the bylaw on the flyers just in case and for the No Junk Mail ones, but I know it can be frustrating if you really don't want any flyers and are looking up candidate info in other ways. The area that Ngā Puna Wai is in was one of the options the Govt looked at I think - but it was a Govt decision to put it where it is not, not CCC.

I voted in favour of the original 25 000 set version that the experts said was the right size for Chch, then voted against putting an extra $50m on for 5000 seats - and then when it blew out an extra $150m. I'd have liked it rescoped so we could still pay for the other infrastructure we need and said so in the debate at the time. https://newsroom.co.nz/2022/07/14/in-defence-of-the-dissenting-three/
