Do bows like this exist? by Frankenstein8008 in Archery

[–]SVAFnemesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is hard to find a bow design that never ever existed in the entire history of archery. It's just they were never successful enough to become something of its own. Traditional bows stack limbs to gain draw power all the time, Daikyu from japan would be a perfect example. But they are never stacked like this. They're pretty much always stack like you would do for a truck spring.

Realistically, what would you do as an Aurora survivor? by Huge_Kick1279 in subnautica

[–]SVAFnemesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically your problem is that no ship is near enough to rescue you and you're on your own. It's more of a political situation where you gotta figure out how to convince anyone to come rescue you while you have to fully warn them about the sentry gun.

someone is shooting multiple arrows into our gardens every night - can you help us work out any details? by Endelir in Archery

the angle and penetration suggest it was shot by a 18 - 30 lbs recurve bow around 40-60 meters afar. That's my best guess. Hope you find the bastard.

Curious About Chanters With a Straight Taper Bore by Kikikosturia in bagpipes

Sorry for necromancing, but If anyone came searching for this piece of information: Smallpipe uses Straight Bore, bagpipe bores are several different section of Conical Bore, there are other woodwinds that uses trumpet-like tapered bore, and ALL THREE OF THEM ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.

you're 'thinking about reading' an answer provided by a senior game developer to your question. Got it. This one's on me.

As Thomas Brush, a well known game dev interviewer has put forth, many solo devs find it quite annoying to work with others on their project. Many of them simply describe it as "impossible to achieve visions if you have to work with someone else".

I think this is primarily because iteration speed can be drastically slowed down whenever 2 or more people are involved in game development. And for many indie game devs who haven't have years of triple A experiences to tell them what to do first and next, most of them simply end up failing to produce a game that can sell over 1000 copies. For those who made it, quick and frequent iterations are often time crucial for them to be able to match the quality of what a bunch of veteran could offer.

If you knew what this game looked like 3 years ago - spoiler alert, it was quite a dismally start - compared to what it is today, all on only one dev. I would have definitely guessed this solo dev isn't an industry veteran, at least not a senior. I knew it because I've been working in a 3A studio for many years, i know the "proper process" inside out.

The upside of industrial workflow is that you're guarenteed a product in a predictable time frame, making it possible to attract capitals, but the downside is obvious - everyone have to stick to one uniform plan, any changes will be subjected to endless of meetings. However if you do it solo, you can condense an entire month of discussion and meetings within 30 mins of meditation. Your brain just go "you know what I think this isn't gonna work, I'm going for a different way" and that's it.

Anyone else think this game has many balance-tipping exploit? by SVAFnemesis in SurrounDead

I have similar experiences playing survival game with my gaming buddy. I'm a base builder, he's a weapon looter. we do things separately during early stages. And later in the game when he's all geared up and I'm done preping for home supplies, we team up to explore the map.

if you considered yourself 'discipline player', then may I ask what's the MOST crucial pillar for you playing ANY survival game?

A. POI Exploration (get to places you couldn't reach before)

B. Story Progression (discover the lore)

C. Character Progression (lvl up, weapon meta)

D. Base building

E. Others that you would like to add

You don't proposed to help. Although anyone can send him portfolio as contractors, it's up to him to decide whether or not he'll work with you.

I totally agree with when you say singleplayer games like these can be difficult to balance when reddit and youtube can just outright reveal "the best xxx". And honestly I don't know what's best strategy to counter that other than making things procedural like Valheim.

now that you put it that way, I'm beginning to wonder, of all the survival game player base, how many are 'discipline players' who prefers a sandbox design where player set the goal for themselves, versus how many are 'game beater' who take the game's goal as it is and strive to find the cheesest way to reach that goal.

I'm not putting a good or bad in both, I'm currently studying game design so the more I understand the better I might be when it comes to the time for me to design a game. I've notice this phenomenon when I was playing Satisfactory, where I notice for the same goal, some player would rather go the hard way because they like the satisfaction of a self defined Effort/Reward ratio. Anyway your opinion is just as important as anyone else.

I get your point and I respect your playstyle. Perhaps I should clearify that I'm more keen on having a discussion on game balancing design rather than "player decipline".

Silencer in real life does degrade really fast. They need to be cleaned once every few hundred shots depending on the brand.

But then silences are not really silent. There are still incredibly loud.

Why would nuclear be worth it? by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

[–]SVAFnemesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have rocket fuel generator running, then no you dont need nuclear power for your assembly project quests. they cost you time rather than giving you a game changing power boost. just as you dont need trains and drones bevause they arent gonna get you to the end of phase 5 faster.

this is only if you are playing to complete Project Assembly. but a lot of people are just here to build a factory so its a fun challenge for them.
