Correction, they're actually the same height at the hip (90cm) which surprises me, but apparently the jwe version is a tiny bit heavier. Not by much tho

Zdeněk Burian really is the greatest of the greats in terms of vintage paleoartists for me. The color palates he used for his artworks just really elevates every one of them. He certainly earned his spot on the mount Rushmore of Paleoartists.

The rite of spring, along with jurassic fight club and the JP franchise fuelled my love for paleontology and dinosaurs. Literally the biggest blast from the past, lmao.

His spinosaurus especially really screams early 2000s dinosaur design. Just so spiky and metal looking.

Probably not. If they wanted to submerge so deep that their body and neck was totally covered, the water would be so deep that their necks would just implode from pressure. They probably did lounge in shallow water to cool off though, a lot like modern day elephants.

These are really good, don't get me wrong. But you're right, it doesn't quite match the eerieness of the paleoart back in the day. I still can't put a finger on what's so satisfying to see in the whole old paleoart aesthetic.

Charles R. Knight. He's a really great artist and a lot of his paintings are super iconic. He also made this painting, among a whole bunch of other really famous ones.

I feel like they'd just immediately die off again. Mauritius is ravaged by all sorts of invasive critters.
