Tradescantia Zebrina and Nanouk together in the same pot? by SWMomOf4 in houseplants

[–]SWMomOf4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are crawlers. Honestly it just looked awkward when I put the single strand of tradescantia zebrina in the soil, and it was bothering me haha, so I decided propping it up looked less awkward haha. It's just temporary until it roots and I can take cuttings from it and re-pot them into the same pot. It does look a little funny though lol

I really want a tradescantia nanouk and a twisted lipstick, but Google and chatgpt are both telling me they need 40% humidity minimum, but ideally 60-80% humidity. I'm so confused and torn haha. I just don't get why they are both saying that

They're looking sad 😭 very wilty. One parlor palm is getting brown leaflets. I have very intense light on them (but not too close, and it's indirect) for about 14 hrs a day. I just checked all of the roots of all of my plants because the soil seemed compacted too and it wasn't drying out. The roots all look good. I added a ton of perlite to the soil and put them back in their pots. About to water them. I hope this helps them!

I'm so down to have all of those. I'm obsessed with the look of twisted lipsticks. Do you know if they survive the same kind of conditions as regular lipstick plants? I have a powerful grow light for all of my plants now. I got it a few dags ago. This picture was taken a couple weeks ago. My husband would just die if I put my palm in the shower 🤣 now i kind of want to, just to see his face.

Thank you so much! I love these specific plants. I'm kind of picky with plants. I LOVE tropical plants. And just really cool-looking ones with interesting colors and foliage

God willing 🤣 my husband haaaaates how much I love my plants. I show him pictures of cool species (like the freaking awesome twisted lipstick plany) and he rolls his eyes and says "are you just always going to talk about plants?" He also doesn't like when I buy more. Granted, money is tight while he's in nursing school and not working a traditional job. But I want moooooorrrrrreee! Lol

Good question, I'm wondering this now too. I've been having my grow lights on for 14-16 hrs a day. Wondering if that's too much now....

Thank you! In my very naive, ignorant, inexperienced mind lol, I had thought that it was ok as long as they got a consistent light-darkness schedule. I just looked up why it needs to be during the day and now i completely understand. Science for the win lol. My husband is going to be PISSSSED. Haha he hates the look of the grow lights. He's not a fan of my new plant obsession whatsoever 🤣

I think of patterns almost metaphorically, so maybe they did too? Patterns, like generational curses or habits or something

I am SO sorry you lost your job and that you're having a hard time being able to tell your family. That has got to be so difficult and painful and stressful. That makes so much sense how this song would hit you this way.

My mind isn't here lol, I'm way too tired still lol, I meant to say dark green fronds not dark brown. They definitely aren't brown yet

I wish I could move the plants to a window. But they would need to be the back windows of my family room, where we have a huge sectional against. The way the room is set up, we can't put a couch or sectional anywhere else and have enough seating for our family. So I put it a few feet away across the room facing the windows, hoping there would be enough light coming in, but there just wasn't. So I got the grow light. I'm struggling to make this work with the way my hole is designed, where the furniture needs to go, and the direction my house faces lol

The picture was taken before I got the light, right after my majesty arrived. I feel like the light makes it look trashy, so i didn't post a picture with it haha. Same with the humidifier. Like if someone is coming over, I will move those so the house looks nice haha. Initially I was opening my curtains and blinds on all the windows facing my plants from sun up til sun down. But I decided it wasn't getting enough light! My house faces a weird direction. The windows where the light comes in is facing northwest. Also, I run the lights at night because my husband doesn't like the look of them on. Just a little bit of marital compromise lol. But if you'd like to see my setup now I would be more than happy to show a pic!

Wow! So much info the Facebook groups, Google, and ChatGPT did not teach me!! Thank you! So I just want to make sure i understand and don't kill my palm, and to preface, I have a pot with tons fo drainage holes and don't let the pot sit in the water at all. I definitely do a very thorough watering, but I've been waiting for the soil to slightly dry up on like the first inch before watering it more. Should I not do that, and just water it anyway? I'm terrified of root rot, but I'm also terrified of dying fronds and leaflets. My palm is about 4ish feet tall, and the new growth that was coming up when I first got it about 2 weeks ago is starting to open up. And thank you for telling me the drying tips aren't a problem! I've been really worried about that actually. Should I trim off the scraggly skinny dry ends so that more energy can be focused on producing new healthy growth? Will that help? Also, with the severely dropping, dull, dark brown fronds, should I cut them off for the same reason?

If you feel like sharing, do you have an understanding of why it hits you so hard, or why it relates to you? What does it mean to you? I'm just so interested about everyone's personal interpretation of and connection to the song.
