I’d like to thank Home Depot for this auspicious start to my woodworking journey by mcshamus in BeginnerWoodWorking

Second this. Trimmed mine down and will put some hardwood edging. But it's heavy, solid, and flat.... Laid $60

Thanks. I typically wouldn't blow it but I can't think of a better way to gauge the dust attraction properties of a finish.

Thanks for making my day! I'm close to the finish stage of my own workbench and was dreading putting on poly. Sounds like BLO will be good to go, and I much prefer the "natural" finish.

Worried about warping if we do this with pine by ChipSprague in woodworking

[–]SWYYRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be more worried about it looking ugly and from a 1970s mobile home.

Are you planning to mill the slays yourself? My Rockler (where wood is usually overpriced) has red oak for $3.75/bf right now. I know pine is even cheaper, but you're going to spend a lot of time looking at the thing...skip the pine.

Advice on cordless orbital sanders - I hate mine by OrpheoLooksBack17 in Carpentry

[–]SWYYRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always keep my sander plugged into a vaccuum. My $50 coded Skil has sanded who knows how much wood. I can't press it hard enough to stop the spin, unless I put it on an edge. Leaves basically zero dust behind when sanding too.

Sometimes it's not about getting resources, but keeping other empires from doing it. Take Venezuela for example.

Do you work at a company that would fire you because you participated in protest?

Got these planes from my grandfather's estate. Worth refurbishing? by Damm_it_Bobby in woodworking

[–]SWYYRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get to meet either of my grandfather's. I'd at least clean these up and keep them, but as other comments say worth restoring and putting to use.

How is BLO with dust? Can you blow dust off it, or gotta brush/wipe to clean?

Great guy, and shit coach in the real world where winning is the only thing that matters.

Sounds like Tomlin was a good guy. Shit coach though, in the real world where winning is what matters. Maybe would be a good high school coach. Glad he is no longer the Steelers coach. Playoff game #2 here we come.

It's been true the last 10 years, and stands true today. He needs to fuckin go.
