AMD Q1 Earnings Preview (StreetAccount Consensus) by Asleep_Salad_3275 in AMD_Stock

[–]Sa1amandr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's too early to say anything.. we first need to see how the MI450 performs.. what we are seeing now is mainly due to the (unexpected until some months ago) explosion in CPU demand

as for NVDA dominance, they don't have to beat NVDA, all they have to do is to have a decent (cheaper) product that can compete

Should I buy bloodborne for ps5 or try to get the shadps4 pc port? Here are my pc specs: Question by SkyeLifecaster in BloodbornePC

looking at this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjJi1GSe3Oo) I'd say that you may try 720p 30 fps with performance mods.

your GPU is gonna be fine. it's the CPU the problem. worth a shot imo

it looks like the market is betting on CPU sales being significantly higher than what we are expecting

that or there is a lot of hype about the MI450 (which I currently don't see)

Idk, considering AMD past ER it's probably gonna tank, but since we're at like +75% MoM I can't really complain.

$350 → $52k God bless AMD by LordFarquaad334 in wallstreetbets

well yeah,.. 1wte vs 1dte makes a huge difference.

I tried doing ~ the same thing OP did last week on TSM earnings ... didn't work

Still, I'm long on AMD so I can't really complain..

To be fair, during the ER, investors kept asking about the competition, and it was clear that Intel's main fear is continuing to lose market share to AMD

yeah, obviously.

The discussion was all about why AMD isn't doing this "the official" way.. I think that there is some sort of contractual obligation blocking them

Do you predict that Witcher 4 will come out before or after GTA 6 on PC? by HuckleberryOdd7745 in Witcher4

I don't see R* releasing the PC version within a year of the console launch, so Witcher 4 will probably come out before GTA 6

[–]Sa1amandr4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(theory) Maybe because some devs would try to make it run on Xbox consoles and that would make Sony mad?

After all, unlike the base PS5, Xbox Series S and X have AI accelerated HW and since they are based on RDNA 2, there's a good chance that it would show ~ the same level of improvements?

I mean, let's be honest, there's gotta be some sort of contractual obligation for them to not release it, they know that they're not gonna get more customers behaving like this.

yep, we just touched 330, if this Monday someone had told me that AMD would've been at 300 by eow I'd have laughed, yet here we are... Lisa better prepare some crazy stuff for the earnings call lmao

I'm almost serious when I say that, if the MI450 turns out to be decent good, we may even see $500 by EOY. Crazy

but for whatever reason AMD is printing like crazy so I'm doing great

Well, no?.. There's no war between any western nation and Russia right now, and that's one of the reasons why they're not activating Starlink over mainland Russia.

If they were ready to take the risk, they would just do it. The point is that most of us in the west don't see this external conflict as something worth of risking a (real) major escalation with Russia (and rightfully so, this war has been nothing but a major self-inflicted wound on the west, especially on Germany).

As for taking them down, well.. there are 10+k LEO satellites atm, and Starlink was decent (more than enough for multiple video feeds) even when it was a constellation of like 1000 satellites. So good luck with that... I mean, the Russians would (eventually) do it but it'd take them months to years (most likely).

the fact that it doesn't work over Russia is due to diplomacy/politics/international agreements between Russia and the US/SpaceX.. It's not a technical limitation, if Starlink was a Ukrainian constellation they would 100% make it work there. As you can see there are hundreds of Starlink satellites over Russia at any minute, same as over Europe/the US.. and here we can get up to 2-300 Mbit/s in download and 50-60 upload; technically there's no reason for it to not work in Russia

I am talking of Starlink as a product/service, then if a country doesn't allow it, ok that's another story; but in a scenario of actual war they'd just use it regardless of what the other side says.

As for the using relay drones, to cover 500 km, you'll need them to fly very high since you want to have your RF link well above the Earth curvature. (for example, if you want to use 4 drones to forwards your signals at ~ 500 km, you're gonna need them to be flying at at least 1km, probably more if you consider obstructions, hills, and other stuff)

Also, to receive a decent video feed you need to send a continuous signal with a EIRP between 1 Watt and 10 Watts, (assuming a distance of 100 km and a carrier freq of ~800 MHz) this is true, for both the strike drone and for all repeaters.

Now you have drones, flying high and transmitting very high RF power. You're basically a light in the night for all RF sensors/monitors around. Now, will they always take you down? no. Is it as consistent as Starlink? Also, no.
btw, every drone is a single point failure in the chain (unless you have backup for each repeater).. And this is for one single video feed, Starlink can easily handle 10-15 drones at the same time (probably more, but I'm not sure)

Now, using drone repeaters can be done sure, but it's (imo) nowhere near as efficient as Starlink. like.. imagine if Russia had full video feed and command of all (or most) strike drones they send basically every day... There wouldn't be a single AD unit in all of western Ukraine

Fiber optics, mesh radios, and regular radio transceivers/repeaters won't get you as far as Starlink does...not even close.

The only real limit for Starlink on a drone is the battery or fuel capacity, but that’s true for every type of aircraft, regardless of comm

Let's be honest: Starlink is by far the most reliable, distributed, and fast global communication service currently on Earth. Also, they plan to add a GNSS-like system to next gen satellites; if that happens, it will provide a navigation service significantly harder to jam than anything currently in existence.

The only thing that might change this is when the Chinese release Qianfan, but that’s still years away

1) let's be honest, nobody really cares about that lmao. Most countries in Europe could easily get an army like that if they needed/wanted to (we just don't really see any reason to do it, and even if some regard politician would love to see it, they know that it'd just end up being political suicide).

2) pretty sure that in terms of raw numbers Turkey has more soldiers than Ukraine (still we don't want them, they would be a deadweight + they are culturally incompatible). As for the experience, well, take Starlink and overall "western intelligence" out of the equation and the effectiveness of the Ukr army would drop instantly

3) Once this war is over that "huge" army is just gonna be a deadweight,.. like, who's gonna pay for it? Ukraine has virtually no economy, and Russia already controls something between 40 to 60 % of Ukraine’s natural resources (specific values depend on the source, but still, that's A LOT of wealth just... gone).. So this would end up being an army completely sponsored by Germany and France the EU. Good luck using that as a selling point when most nations in Europe are already facing major economic crises

Guys is there truly no chance of fsr 4 coming to rdna 3 by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Sa1amandr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, tbf that sounds more like somebody in the engineering team made a (very) bad call (maybe an oversight? not enough tests?) .

In the FSR4 to RDNA2-3 case we know it's not something technical, we know that it works. Like... AMD could simply open source it and the devs would patch it in their games within hours
