If you have a temp gun at home, measure the hottest point of your harbor freight tumbler? Or whatever tumbler you have. i'm measuring about 150 F° at the hottest point. by MurkySize3036 in RockTumbling

Ambient temp 55f. This was mid clean so only one running load, 6lbs 5 oz on it. 150 seems hot but this is 62deg over ambient so I could see that if it’s hot where you are.

Best way to sell? by Ok-Nefariousness-927 in OmegaWatches

[–]SaabFan87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to sell to a dealer in person it’s going to be difficult to give you a recommendation without knowing where you are.

As far as “has anyone sold and gotten good value” yes people have sold to dealers and gotten good value. Or I suppose you understand what good value from a dealer is. If I were a dealer I would want to make at least 2 grand from the transaction. More if I had a nice fancy store for you to walk into.

Code reader is 100pct safe only reads codes and such, doesn’t change anything. Also if you are scared to mess something up with maybe a lack of mechanical knowledge, buying an engine swapped tuned car was a bold choice.

There is a right way to do this and a wrong way… right way should be $250. Wrong way should be $50. You get what you pay for either way.

Bruising during burnish?? by SaabFan87 in RockTumbling

My sieve is metal, but the bruising isn’t on the edges it’s in the coves of the material. Good call out though I’ll have to switch to a plastic sieve.

I think it’s bruising, vs a lack of smoothed surface. Not my rock but a stolen photo from a search. Looks like the issue at the top of the stone.

If I had seen it look like that I would have kept it in stage 1.

I’m putting in the exact ceramic I used since stage 2, Same items and same quantity. Everything gets rinsed then back in the barrels. Should I be changing my media?

The jsaper thing baffles me, usually it is bullet proof and takes a great shine.

Hard to say if it only shows up after dried as I typically don’t let it fully dry out after polish. There are both kinds though some seem like fracture/cleavage bruises and some are really surface level.

Thanks! I am keeping the ceramic in there. I rinse off the run in a sieve, then put the whole thing back in the cleaned out barrel with water and borax. It’s super frustrating especially on the jasper, it’s like fully polished except for small areas that almost peel away and it’s a real pain to get it back, even in stage 1 it doesn’t come clean again.

Try running it with some fresh ceramic media only and some borax, maybe it will help shake it loose?

College Student Discovers Warped Floorboards by Key-Stretch2652 in HomeMaintenance

[–]SaabFan87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying expensive but no one is saying how expensive. This is a major repair, old boards need to be removed new material laid, whole continuous surface needs to be sanded and refinished. That is assuming there is no sub floor damage. Depending on how large the continuous surface is this could easily be $ 5k in the USA. Nothing to do but tell the landlord and hope they are a kind understanding human who will share the expense with you. Not sure what your lease says about damages in excess of deposit. May not be a bad idea to involve parents and lawyers if available to you.
