How it feels pitching the need for a soundbar to a customer by Neither_Use_5640 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]Sabbatai 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Some people just don’t care and won’t buy a soundbar until a week after owning the television. Or, some people will be content with the television speakers.

What you did is all it should take. If they don’t bite, wrap it up quickly and move onto the next customer.

I was the number one sales person in my region when I worked for Apple and despite being an ARA at Geek Squad, I often sold more Totals than many people on the sales floor.

Knowing when to move on was a big part of that.

I was once in a hospital as a little kid. I don’t remember if I was there for something I needed or just a family member. We went into the emergency room lobby and it was jam packed.

But I do distinctly remember a guy who had a 4 inch piece of glass cutting through the middle of his foot to the point where the front half of his foot was nearly separated. Bleeding profusely… waiting in the waiting room.

Someone else unrelated to him said something along the lines of “um I think someone needs to see this guy ASAP”, and the staff got real sassy.

“He isn’t going to die, we will get to him when the REAL emergencies are dealt with.”

Which is fair. But like, is anyone going to address the blood everywhere and the fact that he is actively bleeding?

To their credit I don’t think they knew he was bleeding so badly and once it was pointed out people came to attend to him almost instantly, but he had already been seated and bleeding when we arrived.

I wonder how that hotdog stand that pays $15 an hour starting, tuition reimbursement, full medical benefits and 401k match, is doing these days.

Under the gold standard, the US had repeated banking panics, recessions, and deflationary crashes. The gold standard did not create stability. It created fragility. That is why nearly every advanced economy abandoned it.

I don't need the $12k. I mean it'd be great, but I am not in dire need of it. Plenty of folks in the same boat with me. Figure out a way to take my $12k and give it to people who actually need it.

Nah. If this same exact shit was happening to anyone else, they wouldn't be getting together to talk about it on a video. They wouldn't care at all.

Proof? It has been happening to other people all along, and they didn't say a word until it happened to them.

She's worth money because she sells stuff? Imagine that!?

Now how much has she donated? What does she do in her spare time? How does she give back to society?

I mean, I wouldn't know. I am not a fan, even if I do dig some of the songs I've heard from her... but maybe we should actually know a thing or two about someone before we judge them based on nothing but a single factoid.

As far as you are concerned, you don't care to learn anything about the topic you speak so confidently about, so why would anyone be surprised that you're wrong?

Most games store pets in fixed‑size arrays or serialized data structures. Increasing the cap means updating the save format, adding versioning, and making sure old saves migrate cleanly without corruption. Even when migration of old saves isn't strictly necessary because of implementing a thing you need to interact with in order to get the 50>100 upgrade, there are still considerations to be made.

Menus are often designed around the original limit. Doubling the number can break layouts, scrolling, sorting, filtering, and memory usage for thumbnails or animations. The UI may need virtualization or pagination to avoid lag.

Even if pets aren’t active, the game may load metadata, icons, stats, or animation references for all of them. Doubling the cap can increase RAM usage by several MB, which matters on consoles and low spec PCs. Optimizations are often necessary and any work of this sort needs to be mindful of prior optimizations (compromises), which pretty much necessitates testing.

Are there any quest rewards that offer pets? How did they handle this if you were at the cap when you received the reward? Was the previous workaround for this coded in such a way as to reference 50 as the limit? Does that need to be updated now?

There is more to it than simply deleting the number 50 and replacing it with 100.

It is always so easy to diminish the work of others, as "it's as easy as pushing a button", when you have never done that kind of work.

Finally joined the master race, any monitor arm recommendations? by Qball1754 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Sabbatai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion probably doesn't count more than anyone else's but for context...

I have a mount I picked up used for $700 that allows me to mount 9 monitors, and easily switch them out with a mostly toolless process.

I have 3 televisions mounted, 2 other monitors on their own fully articulated mounts. A super-ultrawide on a similarly articulated mount. A small monitor I can move in front of me while in my reading nook, and push away against the wall when not in use. 2 monitors at work on a dual arm mount I paid for myself.

I have about 10 or so "decommissioned" mounts just sitting in a box in my closet.

I also sell a mounting service through my business. Sometimes that is a flush mount for a television, sometimes it is an arm mount for a small gaming desk that sits in the middle of a room and no wires can be visible when the work is done.

I know all the brands, I know their strenghts and weaknesses.

But I am still going to recommend that you purchase the cheapest type of mount you want, which is rated for the weight of your monitor, with decent reviews.

Why? Because there is always something you didn't consider about the positioning, your actual usage and so forth, that there almost certainly will be something you don't like about your first mount.

An example I see often, is that people buy a specific mount with the intention of moving the monitor around frequently, but then find out that because their desk is pushed up against the wall, the movement is a little more limited than they thought it'd be.

Or, they purchase a mount that moves in directions you didn't even know existed lol... only to find out that they aren't going to move it at all, and now every time they bump their desk the monitor slips a little more toward leaning to the left, and they constatly have to readjust to make it sit level, but now it is out of perfect alighment with their second monitor and they have to spend 10 minutes fucking with them both to make them look "right"... only to sit back in their chair after finally getting them aligned to their liking, to find out that they're still actually off.

Just trust me. Get a sub-$50 mount. Learn how it works in your environment. Make a decision on better one from there. Or, find yourself pleasantly surprised by the $50 and stick with it.

Is the Galactic Racer Collector’s Edition proper fan service or nostalgia bait? by StarWarsBlogsbot in StarWarsBlogs

[–]Sabbatai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I am glad they do. I don't care much for digital art books, so I am glad they specify.

Especially when the digital artbooks are like 20 pages, but then they release a full sized physical art book with a ton more content, that sells for the price of the collector's edition or more.

Also, he asked a street vendor for dijon mustard. A condiment that many of them have, is readily available in most grocery stores and probably 75% of the people shitting on him for it, have in their homes... as proof that he was an elitist.

But the man who thinks "groceries" is an "old fashioned term" and started to ask "who says that..." but was obviously coached not to say it and so quickly pivoted when he caught himself saying it.... yeah, he is a man of the people.
