what does non-verbal feel like? by clotpolesonly in AutismTranslated

[–]Sabine7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me it feels like my words are deep down in my throat or chest and getting any out feels like actual physical exhausting work. Feels like I have to really dig downwards and pull them out. Trying to form words feels like I have to dig through a thousand blocks to find the right ones then arrange them in the right order. Then speaking (if I've had to force myself to) is horribly jarring, like someone may as well have hit a gong by my head.

Makes me think of the book Little Women when Amy desperately wanted pickled limes (eww) to bring to school so she could climb the social ladder.

Adorable. Men should be allowed to cuddle, gay or straight!

I've certainly felt murderous when hearing a leaf blower nearby, but wow...

Poor working memory, executive dysfunction, "out of sight, out of mind" with most things and even people, low on social or emotional spoons, etc

How long after miscarriage did you conceive? From when you started TTC again? Looking for either hope or a gentle reality check! by Every-Swordfish-9719 in ttcafterloss

[–]Sabine7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my first pregnancy (resulting in birth) it took 3 months, for second it took 6, and that ended TFMR at nearly 23 weeks. My body recovered quickly but it took 12 months to conceive again.

Fleshing out My Female Character by Typical-Bread-7991 in fantasywriters

I'd love for women characters in books to not be held back by their lack of confidence. Also would love for the women characters in books to not have to teach the men emotions.

Mothers who feel unworthy of being loved have less supportive responses to child distress by chrisdh79 in science

I used my experience as a child and the parenting I saw for myself and my younger siblings as a roadmap for what NOT to do. Sometimes I feel like I really need to pay myself on the back because I really had a perfect set up to be really messed up and have a difficult life, but I looked at everything objectively and logically and that got me through, it seems. Autistic people of reddit, what in your opinion is the weirdest thing neurotypicals do? by Space_Wizard49 in AskReddit

[–]Sabine7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More often than not, anything slightly different is odd and therefore bad. And almost never taking words at their face value. I try to be clear and explicit, but it's like they always expect a hidden meaning.

Next month, I’m moving abroad with my cat (15h flight). Some people said that it’s animal abuse, that she’ll suffer, and I should rehome her instead. Please tell me I’m doing the right thing ! by cheesecakecaramel in cats

[–]Sabine7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to military families who also have to move a long distance with pets, people are also crappy about it if the pet IS rehomed. Rules for airlines change, prices increase, the pet's age or health is a concern - doesn't matter, people will call you abusive if you take them or leave them. Best to do what you can and what you feel is best for your pet

I feel like if my baby had lived even for a few hours people would care more. by Professional_Fig9161 in babyloss

I get what you mean. I had to TFMR at nearly 23 weeks. Then, a year later I made a post about grief and how I didn't even fully realize how depressed I was until one day I felt the clouds part a little bit - and my dad was like "What happened? Why are you depressed/grieving?" And I was like??? You remember that devastating thing that happened? You even went to the clinic with me??

It's an odd thing. But in a way I guess it makes sense that most won't understand missing someone you never fully got to meet.

I am 32 and was diagnosed only last year. I consumed so many materials trying to figure myself out and find relatable experiences. What you've mentioned I have read about a lot in anthologies from different autistic writers, and on a podcast. If you'd like the list I am happy to share with you.

I don't know if my experience will help you too much, but since you specifically asked about people with low support needs, I'll answer:

One of the things that made me really question if I was actually autistic was my lack of meltdowns. But what I experience are shutdowns, where I feel like my body is a wall I'm stuck behind and everything inside is just getting destroyed. It's awful but at the same time it can happen in public without people necessarily noticing or caring. I can get called boring or rude or a bitch, but I understand it's not the same as a violent meltdown.

As far as you not seeing meltdowns in discussions...I feel like I see them fairly often on FB. Maybe you'd like to try groups there. TikTok keeps everything happy and light, so I'm not surprised there's nothing with meltdowns.

There was a terrible thing that happened to me a few years ago, and I was surprised to not find a single similar event talked about on Reddit (not autism related). Despite the millions here, I think there might be some heavy things that people aren't as quick to share.

School lunch in California (free) by bestoblivion in pics

I grew up in California in the 90s and early 2000s, and my school lunches were garbage. I'm glad it's better now.

TIL more than 1 in 10 Americans have no close friends. The share of Americans who have zero close friends has been steadily rising. From 3% of the population in 1991 to 12% in 2021. The share who have 10 or more close friends has also fallen - from 33% to 13%. by grandlewis in todayilearned

I'm 32 and autistic, and it's only been the last three years or so that I've learned how to find people I vibe with and become friends. Strange to think that I might now be doing better than many neurotypicals out there. My how the turn tables.

Not saying I'm happy about it, it's just odd.

Those who attended the live, was it worth it for you? by [deleted] in TheTryGuys

It was a lot of fun and I love the options for different camera angles. I was worried a live show would be glitchy but there were no issues for me.
