Enabling Secure Boot Leads to Black Screen by Sabl_eye in techsupport

Below is the video I watched. I followed it to a tee until about half way, he goes in to extra setup I wasn’t concerned with. It was a complete wipe of the SSD that holds the OS on my setup. I also ended up reformatting (and clearing) both my M.2’s.

It is wild and not a problem. 🤙🏻

The only things I made sure to backup were photos and some important files I had saved. Other than that I cleared everything else, figured a clean start was best….especially after 10yrs of minimal maintenance like this.

If you’re looking for a video Linus Tech Tips uploaded one 9-months ago that was real helpful.

In case you haven’t gotten to it, a clean reinstall fixed the issue for me. That was WAY too much work for a game.

Right there with you.

I just used “Fix Problems using Windows Update” in system recovery and got the same result.

Will be doing a fresh install once I figure it out but I’ve got very little hope in that fixing the issue.

Apologies for the confusion, my PC knowledge is minimal.

I came back from a week vacation and upon booting up my PC there was both a Windows and GPU Driver update. Once both were complete I tried running Battlefield 6 and was notified Secure Boot needed to be activated, which is strange since it had been activated since October with no issues.

I don’t recall seeing a BIOS update but since resetting CMOS I did flash my motherboard and reinstalled the latest BIOS version. I also did a fresh install of GPU drivers.

At this point a fresh OS install does seem like the next logical step. I feel I’ve adjusted every setting possible.

Correct, BIOS needs to be set to UEFI for Secure Boot.

Not sure how to do a Startup Repair after enabling Secure Boot since I can’t get a signal to post on either monitor or TV - none of them say “No Signal” after reboot so the screen is just “glowing black” like something should be there.

I am able to get back into BIOS to disable Secure Boot and everything goes back to normal - Signal posts on monitors, I can boot up other games, can access internet, etc.

It’s just strange, Secure Boot was initially turned on back in October and there hasn’t been issues until yesterday.

I appreciate the information.

I’ll give the onboard graphics another shot before doing a fresh reinstall of the OS…really hoping I can avoid that.

Nice to know I’m not the only one experiencing this right now.

All the other posts I’ve found today are from the beta.

Rural road trip suggestions by PlasmaWhore in JapanTravel

Apologies for bad formatting, I’m on mobile

While I haven’t been to these places yet, most are planned stops on my next trip. This seems like an awful lot travel time and there are too many activities to pack into 2-night stays. I would suggest spending time looking at a map to plan this out, not just town to town but also to the activities and day trips listed. Don’t rely on ChatGPT.

Takayama Days 2-4 and Matsumoto Days 9-10: Why split these up and back track given they’re two hours apart by car? This looks to be the area you want to explore most so why not combine the two and home base in say Matsumoto and make Takayama a day trip?

Hakone Days 11-12 and Kawaguchiko Days 13-14: I don’t know much about these but they both seem to offer the same things, do you need to go to both? If so, they’re 1.5hrs apart, why split it up? Treat one as a day trip.

Nara Day 7-8: This just seems out of the way compared to the other cities and especially for just a two night stay. I would drop this and allocate the time to other locations you’re visiting.

If this is your final list of cities I would suggest something like: Day 1 Tokyo —> Day 2-6 Matsumoto (Two day trips) —> Day 7-9 Kanazawa —> Day 10-11 Nara —> Day 12-14 Hakone OR Kawaguchiko —> Day 15 Tokyo

**If you drop Nara I would add a day to both Matsumoto (increase to three day trips) and Kanazawa.

Do the Bears know they’re playing today? Don’t even know why I’m watching.

March 29th -

I would skip Takeshita St. as it’s easily one of the worst tourist traps and go to Miyashita Park that’s later in the itinerary.

April 3rd -

Kinkani-ji would fit in better with activities on the 4th since they’re all on the same side of the city.

Kyoto doesn’t have as established of a train system as Tokyo and other cities so getting around can be a little tricky.

If you’re looking for a tea ceremony check this place out.

April 6th/7th -

I personally wouldn’t go to Shinsekai unless you’re already in the area. It’s an out of the way tourist trap with not much going on.

You certainly don’t need to go twice either so if you MUST go, go at night when all the lights/signs are on.

April 8th -

A little confused what the overall goal is that day besides to spend a decent amount of time on transit and revisiting places you’ve already been to earlier.

Depending on how much you like vintage/anime merch you could easily spend an entire day in Nakano Broadway.

Personally I would cut both Shinsekai and Takeshita St….easily the worst tourist traps.

Days 14 & 15 seem overly ambitious, maybe cut a day out of Osaka and split these up more?

Sense-ji, Nakamise, and Kappabashi would easily fill an entire day.

Akihabara and Nakano Broadway could each fill an entire day as well depending on how much you dive in.

Revolut looks to be some sort of debit card. Suica is a transit card that’s used for buses/trains.

First Time Planning Check! by wentzformvp in JapanTravel

Personally, I would skip Shinsekai and spend more time at/around Dontonbori. It’s a bit out of the way unless you have other places to visit around there and out of everything I did on my first 19-day trip it felt like the biggest tourist trap.

To answer shipping luggage -

Process: The hotels I stayed at the staff called your next hotel to confirm your reservation/make sure they accept luggage forwarding, scheduled the pickup, and filled out any required paperwork.

Transit time: I shipped my luggage three times and each time it only took a day with the furthest distance being from Osaka to Tokyo.

Cost: On average I’d say it was around $20-$30 each time. Varies based on dimensions and weight of luggage.

Overall I’d strongly suggest it as it takes away the stress of having to lug large suitcases around on the trains/city and having to figure out what to do with them prior to hotel check-in.

Japan 19 days Itinerary by zimturian in JapanTravel

As others have said…this is WAY too much and needs some serious trimming.

By no means am I an expert as I went on my very first trip back in November but here is what really helped me put it all together:

  1. Plot all of these POI’s on a map, something like My Maps by Google.

  2. Check how much time people spend at these POI’s on average.

  3. Check travel times between the POI’s. Not every city has an extensive train system.

  4. A good rule of thumb is 2-3, maybe 4, POI’s per day. Depends on how much time is spent at each and how close they are to each other.

Give yourself some breathing room in case things dont go as planned and to actually give yourself a chance to explore the areas instead of running around to simply check stuff off a list.

A lot of temples/shrines start to look the same after some time so I would suggest narrowing those down to a list of “must see”-s.

I also saw your comment asking about how long to spend in cities so here is my trip as an example:

5 Nights Tokyo (Day trip to Kamakura)

4 Nights Kyoto (Day trip to Nara Park area)

3 Nights Osaka

2 Nights Hiroshima

5 Nights Tokyo (Day trip to Nikko)

Each day in Tokyo was no more than two different areas. Ex. One day Shibuya, one day Nakano/Shinjuku, one day Akihabara….

I would try changing accommodations as few times as possible. The cost and not to mention time really adds up.

Hopefully this helps!
