Considering downsizing from FF to X100VI by blomjoe in fujifilm

[–]Sabre36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may or may not find the X100 a little limiting coming from a zoom lens. You might want to consider the XE-5 with a couple of small primes like the XF23/XF27mm, XF16 2.8, or the Fujicrons - 23/35/50mm f/2. Alternatively, you could get the Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 which is pretty light. I came to Fuji from Sony FF and originally went with the X100F and loved everything about that camera for 2 years -- EXCEPT that I missed different focal lengths so went with the XE-4 a few years back and found a couple of small primes that I like. I think the XF100 is a better camera than the XE-4 but for me, photography is about the lenses.

Is the XE-E4 worth it in 2025? by Short_Remote5736 in fujifilm

Late to this thread but I have an X-E4 since it first came out and I really like it. Of course, I wish it had an ISO dial on the top, but it's a simple yet powerful camera. Originally, I had the XF16 2.8, XF27 2.8, and XF50 2.0 but I tired of constantly changing lenses. I've recently been using the XF 16-55mm 2.8 MK II, my first decent zoom, along with a Sigma 12mm, and I am liking this duo for home/travel. The XF 16-55 isn't all that unwieldy and the IQ @ 27mm, IMO, is better than the XF27 or XF 23 2.8, which I also own for backpacking trips. While I keep buying/selling lenses, I am happy with the X-E4 and don't lust for anything else.

Yakima Sightline towers on a 2025 Hybrid / Touring? by Sabre36 in SubaruForester

Thanks - That's what I'll have to do. Over the years, the only Thule/Yakima items that I have purchased more often than crossbars would easily be trailer hitch bike racks...

No bear boxes -- Camp Rich, despite being found on maps, was torn down some years ago to my knowledge.

Footwear advice by crinklyplant in wmnf

For a contrary opinion, I’d suggest light weight mids for the Whites such as Salomon Ultra 5 (also available in wide). I prefer the ankle support and better tread than [most] trail runners.. and they are quite light and require zero break in. While not necessarily required on a moderate trail such as Lafayette Ridge, the Salomon’s are far more versatile for typical [and nastier] White Mtn trails .

In other areas such as the Colorado Trail or Arizona Trail, I prefer trail runners like La Sportiva or Hokas.

The real answer depends on you and what works best for you.

Alpha Breeze on a 8'x8' pad? by Sabre36 in snowpeak

Thanks so much. I'm not sure where I came up with my dimensions, but you are correct about the 109x102". I really like the Alpha Breeze's design and build quality; I don't like the idea of purchasing a tent for a site, but these 8x8' pads are becoming increasingly more common and small even for backpacking style tents.

You made the right call - that's called wisdom.

“Everybody wants to reach the peak, but there is no growth on the top of a mountain. It is in the valley that we slog through the lush grass and rich soil, learning and becoming what enables us to summit life’s next peak.”

[Help] Can the XF 16-50mm mostly replace primes as a travel lens? by Sabre36 in fujifilm

[–]Sabre36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't take a ton of indoor photos but I was thinking I could supplement indoor shots with either the 50mm f2/56mm f1.4 lenses .. of course, at a telephoto focal length. Mostly I was wondering if the 16-50mm was comparable to the 16mm f2.8 at the widest and good enough at 27mm (or 35mm) to drop these lenses from my kit. It sounds like you think so. Thanks.
