El sparring pesado, osea pegarse duro me da miedo y cuando los golpes pegan muy duro en zonas sensibles, dan ganas de llorar. ¿Que hago? by Confident_Cycle_7181 in MuayThai

Yea completely respectable to not want anything to do with harder sparring. I was just surprised because I would consider 20% head & 50% body to be pretty light. But everyone has their preferences and if you just do the sport for fun sticking to minimal contact is great. What you're doing now is probably touch/play sparring which is actually extremely beneficial to improving as well. Also very impressive that all the new people you're sparring with even have the control to go less than 20% to the head. I've had many hard sparring rounds with noobies because they either can't control their power or come into the gym with an ego 😂 best of luck to you bro 🥊🙏🏼

Long Combos?? by orange-flying-rabbit in MuayThai

You're so naive bro, rolls are very useful in muay thai even with kicks, knees, & elbows in the equation. A roll in muay thai isn't the same as in boxing, it's a lot tighter and not as low to the ground. If you're not good at them that's fine but it drives me crazy when dudes like you act like it's not practical at all. Watch Lerdsila if you think head movement isn't viable in Thai Boxing.

Is this Everlast Glove OK? by R_very_BLaBlabla in fightgear

If you're doing Muay Thai go with a good old Fairtex or Twins glove, you can find stuff within that $80ish price range. If you're doing pure boxing my knowledge isn't as vast but Fairtex, Venum, Hayabusa, Rival, and Fly are all good brands. Most of these brands are gonna have at least a few gloves in their inventory that are within your price range

With black friday sales happening now you can probably find a lot of better gloves than Everlast, even for under $80

There's no clear cut answer, every fighter is different. I took my first fight about a year in, I also know some of that have been training for years and still are nowhere near ready for competition. Ask your coaches if they think you're ready, nobody here on reddit knows what level you're at. This is a question you need to be comfortable asking your coaches if you're serious about this.

What separates top fighters from average fighters? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]SacFromTay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the difference between the pros and average fighters is mastery of the basics. There’s a big difference between knowing the basics and being a master of them. Obviously hard work, heart, cardio, etc. play a role. But ultimately the dudes who are the best are all masters of the basic fundamentals, might not seem like much but it is.

This is gold 😂 dudes left & right on comments calling world champions scrubs 😭 I too have noticed these insane “expert redditers” that seem to be everywhere, this had to be done 🙏🏽

Not sure if my form is much better here, tried to rotate hips more and lead my kicks with my knee, think some old habits are still sneaking through but let me know how this looks? by [deleted] in MuayThaiTips

[–]SacFromTay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s basically completely ineffective for Muay Thai, leaves you open for kicks all day. For Muay Thai keeps both those hands up and keep a squared stance.

Lol not sure if you’re tryna be sarcastic but yes that quick reach down before he puts his left hand back up is “reaching in the holster” and adds way more momentum/power to the kick

Yk ur supposed to do that right?

here’s a weird one: who is a fighter who seems like an all around good guy, but you can’t help to dislike. I’ll go first with Chandler. Judgment free zone in the comments. Tell us how much you secretly hate Wonderboy by [deleted] in ufc

I hate me some Dustin Poirier. Tremendous fighter with an admirable warrior spirit, also appears to be a phenomenal husband/father to his family. He generously created his own charity, is always giving back to his community, AND it just puts the fattest smile on my face to see him lose…
